But it’s also probably fair to say that there were more than a few who simply could not comprehend and produce trip planning at the levels necessary to remain both compliant AND earn sufficient income. There’s no accounting for those who can’t comprehend that “time never stops” no matter what else may or may not come into play.

Getting trapped between 2 clowns taking their 30 break on the fuel islands screws your day up regardless of the method you choose. -
Now they just cry because we waste our companies money on fuel. -
Number9, bryan21384 and peterd Thank this.

Which one is 100% reliable?
Which one is less expensive?
Then there's the whole straight-forwardness of the paper log. No clicking through various menus to make sure all of the info gets entered. No wondering if the trailer you entered last week and haven't dropped yet is still showing up on your log. No having to figure out how to remove a load that you were supposed to deliver 3 days from now, but dispatch just decided to pull you off it & repower to free you up for a different run.
If you knew how to keep a log book, you could go anywhere and work without having to re-learn how to log. Now, there's so many options, and every company (especially if they're large enough) will have their own versions of the 'commonly used' ones...meaning now you've got to get trained in how to log using THEIR specific system.
Not to mention the whole "tied to the truck" part. Hard to accurately keep a log when you can't have it with you where are, and it can be more hassle than it's worth having to go back and edit in time blocks for any time worked away from the truck.
Yup. There are tons of flaws with the ELD, and at the end of the day it is no more accurate in logging TRUE compliance with the HOS than paper logs. In my case, they are actually LESS accurate, because I'm less inclined to go out of my way to ensure they are accurate. If it takes longer to make an entry for a change of duty status into the ELD than it would take me on paper, I skip making the entry. If they want it to autimatically track my HOS, then it will only log what it can automatically log. -
My logs and load data go with me wherever I need them to. I just snatch the tablet out of the truck. It’s that simple.
Modifications to current load? Not an issue. I can directly effect minor issues. Bigger ones are handled quickly with a phone call.
BUT, when it goes down. There’s hell to pay when it comes back up. Depending on how long it was down. It could take a couple of hours to clear the outstanding load data.
The bonus is, I don’t have to call or ask anyone how to fill out a paper log.doc43204 and bryan21384 Thank this. -
