Hey man thanks. I was unaware there was anything to check up in there

I may be wrong and have been a lot in my life, but I thought the speed/timing sensors on the 70 pin ECM was a permanent magnetic/inductive pick up sensor like the VSS being it is only a two wire sensor not three wire like a hall effect sensor. I think if you looked at the waveform with a scope it would look like this:
    gt017-example-waveform.png
It shows in Cat literature as a square waveform in system operation, but I think an analog to digital converter is used in the ECM to buffer the signal.
One thing you might check after re-reading post is checking polarity on wire/proper pin location. Also early 2KS had issues with wiring pulled too tight. I attached the Cat troubleshooting document.

Oh dam thanks. I’ll order a scope on amazon for 40 bucks and check out the wave lenght

If it’s like what I believe and what the cat literature says it should be a square wave generated by both cam an crank sensors.
If it’s a Hall effect When scoped at the out put of the sensor it should look like the square wave form on the left.
If it’s a magnetic sensor the wave form will be a sine wave that looks like the one on right.

Also it would be interesting to see if you took the wave form you posted and stretched it out on the scope to see what it looks like.
It looks like it’s too compressed to get a good read on it.

Both sensors have only two wires, hall effect sensors have three.

It goes from positive to negative/ a/c voltage reading. Hall effect would be sqaure wave/ off and on from reference voltage to zero volts.

Ok I missed that they were only two wire sensors he has.
They have to be magnetic sensors then and the wave pattern should look like the wave pattern on the right of the diagram I posted.

It’s definitely a magnetic sine wave form you posted but it’s too compressed to read glitches properly.
If the OP puts a scope on his he should stretch the wave pattern out on the scope so he can see any minute anomaly’s in the wave form that may be causing a problem.

It’s kind of like an engine with a dead cylinder.
If you slow it down you can really feel it.
But if you rev it up you barely notice the misfiring engine.
If you slow down the wave form on the scope you get a much more readable wave form to check for glitches.

    bigguns and spsauerland Thank this.

I agree and this would require a better scope than a $40 chinesse one. I have been looking @ Pico scopes but just can't justify the cost.
