I'd love to actually see the intersection where it happened yes some corners are really tight and can test you out if in doubt stop you won't lose points for stopping as that prevents an incident however going ahead and hitting the sign did cause the incident and is the reason you now have a ticket yes your mechanic is right though i wouldn't stress to much about it as your new and part of the learning process is making mistakes.Keep in mind the words of a very famous politician by the name of Winston Churchill he said "Never give up never never give up"
Took out a road sign on my CDL road test today...Now what?

You now have the required prerequisites to work for Swift. They should be calling you shortly.

Get a lawyer to fight that ticket for you, and let your boss know that you are fighting the ticket and will let him know the results when you do.
Don't feel bad. Did you make a rookie mistake? Yes. Did you learn from it? I hope so. Don't make yourself feel too good though. You need to NOT be content with making mistakes like that. This time it was a sign, but what if that was a mother with her child, or an old person? Learning from small mistakes is what makes you grow into a skilled professional driver. Many drivers are content with making mistakes and occasionally hitting things.
You said you should have stopped when the car jumped out in front of you. I probably would agree, though I don't know the exact circumstances. A more experienced driver might have been able to pick up on the car and assumed he was going to pull out in front of you, as that's what cars do in big city traffic. You don't want to stop, but stopping is much better than hitting something. The problem with stopping, is if a distracted driver then plows into you. Now usually that can be avoided by giving yourself plenty of room when turning onto the road. But again, in big city traffic there are some roads where there is literally never a very safe moment to enter. Tough situation all around, but I think slowing down or stopping and then finishing your turn would have been the right thing to do.
Good luck on your next try!!rolls canardly and VinnyVincent Thank this. -

I feel horrible about it, like I basically just screwed up my future and the ability to get any other decent job. I'm not sure what the implications will be when this is all said and done. I know an accident report was filled out and if this ticket sticks, it's an "improper turn", which is three points on my license.
Maybe Ridgeline is right and I should start considering another career path.
I wanted to get my HazMat and drive tankers eventually. I'm thinking it's going to be real hard to land that with this on my record, even after I get some experience.UturnGirl Thanks this. -

As for the wreck, well crap happens. It will not affect 99% of the companies you would want to work for. For the companies where it might matter, you don't have the experience to get those jobs anyway so don't worry about it.
Your instincts were good, i.e. not hitting the car. You just need to learn to keep your situational awareness and know where everything is around you and don't let other drivers panic you. If something happens because other drivers, simply stop. They will go around and then you can continue your maneuver.Texas_hwy_287, UturnGirl, stillwurkin and 2 others Thank this. -
