I recently applied for a driver apprentice position with FedEx Freight in Northern California, and this has been the strangest application process that I've been through in the trucking industry, so I'm hoping someone could share some insight into how the hiring process works.

I applied for the position at the beginning of January, and received an email from FedEx saying they would like to speak to me about a week later. I spoke with someone from their HR department and they setup an in-person interview the following week. I attended the interview and it seemed to have went pretty well and the hiring manager said they would pull my MVR and then proceed to the next phase of the interview. About two weeks went by and I made several follow-up calls to the local terminal, then today I received an email saying the job had been filled or I was no longer being considered, HOWEVER, when I signed in to the FedEx portal my job submission status still states "under consideration" and the job listing is still open. I am I still being considered for this position? Does anyone have any info on the hiring process? As of right now, I'm pretty confused and the hiring manager isn't in the office until Monday.

I got a job thru the apprentice program. They probably hired someone already.

When I got the job I got an email saying so obviously.

Well, that's fine if you want a McJob. If you want a job that's worth having, it ain't generally gonna fall in your lap--ya gotta put forth some effort.

I don't live up there, but at one time there was a smaller company paying mid-20's on the Humboldt CL for runs to the bay area. And there's a company out of Santa Rosa (Associated or something) that sometimes hires, reviews are mixed.

Also there's Roy Miller, not sure how far up they go.

Otherwise it's likely the big names.

FxF works for some people. I've gotten along with their dock managers fine, been strongly encouraged to apply and even called by them to see if my app is put in yet. The app system rejects me and HR won't give a reason. At times it's failed with an error after the entire app was put in.

I think that if a company is a PITA to hire with, they'll be a PITA to work for. If hiring with FxF is easy for someone they should work there.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll call the hiring manager over there and see what's up. When I interviewed with him he was all for moving me on in the process and hiring me on, but I guess FedEx HR thought otherwise.

    I guess I'll keep looking.

Were you able to move any further along in the process? I recently applied for a Driver Apprentice job at a nearby FXF, but I have not heard back yet. My status is still showing "under consideration" on their website.

I'm wondering if the low rates are making running a truck a losing proposition.
In the past it has only takin a couple days to get into an orientation class.
Ive waited over a week and haven't received one offer yet.
I bet if the rates were high all the companies would be hiring ...like yesterday..
