I think it's been long enough now I can tell this. Back in 1996 I bought a Pete 379. At about 15,000 miles I was running a dump with 3 other trucks from our co. and we were going to Lubbock from Amarillo just moseying along in the early morning. A guy in a small Toyota pickup ran up on us as we were passing a 4 wheeler in the R lane. He tried to zoom around on the R and made it past the 1st truck and veered in the L lane b/n the 2 of them. After the 2nd truck passed and was barely clear, he swerved to the R and passed the 2nd, at the same time I came to the Right so now doing about 80 he swerved to the L and passed me, flipped me off and slammed on the brake when he had once again swerved back in my lane. I never slowed down because I had 2 witnesses and he started looking at bugs on the grill over his shoulder. I then kept on him up to about 85 and he could'nt get away from me. By now he was scared as H****. I followed him at about 15 ft for 3 miles before he could find an off ramp to stop and wipe his drawers. I bet he never messed with another trucker since and we sure got a big laugh.

Well it seems that you all are pretty even tempered and good natured. :biggrin_25519: I'm glad to hear that you're don't feel all that hassled by 4 wheelers. I've definitely heard some doozies though.

What scares me is the truck drivers that drive like all of the four wheelers you all were talking about. The dumbest driver on the road is a truck driver getting a speeding ticket for his company and paying for it out of his own pocket.

The public for most part does not understand that the are (to still a line from Molly Hatchet) FLIRTIN WITH DISATER.

We area 80,000 lb. bullet that doesn't stop on a dime , just because we have multipal brakes.
For every acttion, there is a reaction. Or something like that.

I know that when i took drivers ed back in high school, not once during the sermester long class, did my teacher talk about driving around trucks. And i wish he had. Yes i used to harrase truckers when i was in my teens. Looking for a easy thrill. This all changed when a kid i knew got killed for his stupidty around trucks.

It should be mandatory in all Driver Ed classes nationwide, to spend at least a week on the subject of driving in/ around/with trucks. And the instructor could invite a trucker to come visit, the class. Let the driver show them the skills we use out here, as well as not what to do around trucks.
If this was mandatory, i think there would be even less truck acceidents, involving 4 wheelers.

I am in complete agreement that most stupid four-wheeler moves come from ignorance and not harassment. Occasionally there's that young hot shot kid who decides to play lets-freak-out-the-trucker, but it's not common. I'm sorry to say I have been harassed by more truck drivers than four-wheelers.

We have 18 wheels that means we can stop 18x faster!

I agree there should be a mandatory lesson about trucks on every road test. its part of the reason i joined trucker buddy lol

How about we clean up our own act before we tell four wheelers how stupid they are. How many times have you been tailgated by one of the large car drivers this week or month? How many times did a large car driver cut you off after passing? Any driver that moves back in front of you in less then sixty feet has cut you off. How many drivers passed you this week and squeezed between you and the truck in front of you? And drivers that drives in OH knows to expect this kind of stupid actions from truck drivers almost every ten miles. Your running 57 or 58 MPH in OH and passed by a wannabe large car driver, his company tells him how and when to drive, and as he cuts you off to get back into the right lane, it frightens the hell out of these drivers to be in the left lane, and some one says "bear" on the CB and this stupid large car driver slams his brakes and drops it down to 50 MPH and your trying to get away from him so that it don't look like you tailgating. Lets clean up our own act before we try to correct others. And yes I have heard the pathetic excuse that when a wannabe large car driver tailgates that he knows what he is doing because he has 2 years of driving under his belt. He needs to go back to driving school. No I'm not perfect because I make rookie mistakes every once in a while but I'm smart enough to correct my actions as soon as I see myself doing it. Have a safe trip.
