I doubt I can fully get across my main point here and stay under the word limit on these boards. I will try however. One of the problems depressing wages across the board is what I call the Walmart factor. Walmart is a great place to shop however Walmart has forced a lot of smaller local retailers to either smarten up or go out of business. In my hometown back in Georgia when Walmart opened their new supercenter 3 retailers closed up shop within a year. How does this apply? Well when a company like Walmart is cutting things to the bone and they need goods moved who is going to get that contract? Company A with 100,000 trucks and can operate AND make money charging say $1.25 a mile. Or Company B with only 25,000 trucks and their break even point is $1.30 a mile? Company A is going to cut Company Bs throat every day of the week and 5 times on Sunday. Over time Company B is either going to be absorbed into Company A or simply go out of business if they can't find good paying freight to haul. However all the company As out there have to keep their wages depressed or another company will come along and cut their throat. There are many small carriers out there that are making it. They are paying premium wages. This Walmart factor is not universal in all of trucking. however it is a real problem across the majority of it. I have seen with my own eyes many times my company lost a contract because someone else came in and underbid a contract.

Thinking of it. You’re in Vineland. Joffee Lumber by the Mall, Brunozzie in East Vinland, One Sun in Bridgeton, Bradway Trucking. Crap you could even try NFI. Then you have all the east Vinland farms...

    MAGNUM.....

This is the company i work for which is Felon friendly. Even if you are on probation they will still hire you. As long as you’re honest about your past on your application and on the phone with the recruiter they will work with you. I came in with no experience and they started me out at 0.36 cpm.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and also am having trouble getting hired due to a Battery Felon almost 10 yrs ago. I did work in the entertainment industry out of CA. for past year - tour bus motorcoach for bands but moved back to my homestate of Florida and no luck getting OTR work due to the felon charge. Unfortunately I broke a guy's nose while fighting (my only fight in my life) and I was on probation so I got slapped with a battery assault charge... no weapons. Clean license and a #### good worker - but these on line apps don't tell the story. Any leads for the east coast - I'm willing to travel, no dependents. Any help greatly appreciated...

Wait, you only have one Felony charge, but you got it while on probation? Am I missing something here? WHat was the probation for?

First thing I say to any potential applicant is "let me run your license past the insurance co., if they say no; I can't use you'.....Suspensions hurt

OP, since you are in New Jersey, be aware that a few years ago they 'banned the box' that checkoff spot where they asked about EVER being arrested/convicted.

That's been an illegal question on employment applications, in NJ, since December 2014. You cannot ask about arrests and convictions until after the job offer. It cannot be part of the application. If you can do a good job selling yourself, that should give you an opportunity, in NJ and not at a 'national' carrier. Since NJ never had a PUC; Intrastate commerce was never regulated so there are tons of mom & pop companies so you should be able to find something

Most pier companies don't do criminal checks. My last place did use the DAC service after a new hire was pulled from the tractor at the scale after they ran his license and found open warrants and the boss was POed that he had to pay someone to deadhead after the freight.

You would need to obtain a federal TWIC ID to do port work although I don't think your background would prevent that, your fingerprints are electronically entered into the system for the FBI to review.

As I recall it was only $8.00 a person to use DAC and they strongly state that 100% accuracy is ONLY obtainable using fingerprints.....It was a real PITA because each arrest was found in local, county, and state databases so each arrest was repeated several times

Battery Assault charge in 2010 while on probation for a misdemeanor of pawning a stolen surfboard back in 2008 or 2009.

So did you list both on the app when asked? While I'm not positive I'm sure both need to be there as it usually asks for any conviction but every app is different. Make sure you are answering the questions as asked. Other than that I'm sure @Chinatown will be if we can get your location (close city, state) and what your preferences are like van, reefer, flat bed, etc.
