My philosophy has always been not to refuse any load, no matter how much it stinks. I will go where the load takes me, and believe it will come back in spades just from doing my job. So I got empty in Broken Bow lastnight, nothing pre planned so I headed to the truck stop. Hadn’t heard anything at 0900, so I was getting ready to send a message and my phone rings. It’s my dispatcher offering me a load, he says this load stinks I know, but would you be interested? It’s a 4 stopper, picking up in Grand island going to Idaho and Utah, with the final stop coming off Friday midday, without hesitation, I say send it to the truck. I’m going to get stop pay for 3 additional stops, plus the mileage. It’s not the greatest run, but I can live with it.

A few hours later I get a message from our operations manager, telling me how much he appreciated me covering this load and how he knows it’s not the most productive load. He has spoken to the customer and gotten some additional money and will pass the whole amount on to me, $550.00. Totally unexpected, but much appreciated.

Yep. Feeling it too. They are struggling to get me loads this week. After getting back from Nebraska, did a 34 at the Pilot in Haw River NC to get a reset. Delivered my Four Oaks on Monday morning. Got a broker load from Welcome/Lexington NC to our drop yard in Dalton GA. Dropped there and waited two hours for a load that picksup tomorrow in Atlanta (a two stopper) going to Zebulon NC for Thursday then hopefully home. Lot of sitting last few days. Getting a grease job at the TA Cartersville GA as I write this. Wish I had delivered Sunday and went home, but oh well. Come on, March!!

Does FCC have cameras in the truck? What “undesirable” areas do you run (Chicago, East Coast, etc)?

We have forward facing cameras in all the trucks. Depends on which division on where we run. Im on the sw regional and see chicago once every few months or so. Never the east coast.

I run the southeast. Haven't touched Virginia except the southwest portion and thats only coming back from Nebraska. The Carolinas, Georgia and Florida though its been slow since the new year. Next month should start picking back up. Keeping the faith!

Had a great drive this morning, took 191 out of Rock Springs, Wyoming to Hoback junction and picked up 89 into Idaho, and picked up 26 and took that into Idaho Falls. Absolutely beautiful drive along the Snake River, lots of snow, but the roads were in good shape.

Have my reload information for tomorrow once I kick off my final stop. Head up to Logan, Utah and pick up a load going to Sioux Falls, SD for Monday.

The drive East looks ugly over the weekend, Nebraska is going to get slammed. I’ve missed most of the bad storms thus far, but will probably have to play in some bad conditions this trip.

Good luck and safe travels! I know I’m sick of winter, and I wouldn’t think I’m the only one. And I’m in KC! We’ve gotten relatively lucky compared to the rest of the country.

And speaking of KC, thats where I am headed in the morning with this broker load. 3300 miles last week. They are floating me between SE regional and mixing in long hauls bouncing me between my regional dispatcher and my new longhaul dispatcher. Just when I thought I was headed for home.......turn and burn. Trip salvages this week and then a load back to Braselton GA for Tuesday afternoon live unload at Petco. I will have been out 17-18 days when I get home. Rivaling Trans Am days for time out. I hear you all laughing!
