If you are saying the registration is based on the value of the vehicle, the monies still wouldn't go to the leasing company.

Sales tax is a state issue. LM can buy anywhere.
-
When I owned my truck and paid it off I got the title. Took it in and titled it in my name. In Texas. Did not have to pay any tax.
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
LM will call you about a month before you last payment and ask where to send the title. 7-10 days after your last payment the title will be at your house.
I just took it and a copy of my lease (company I'm leased to) paid $20 to have the title put in my name.. that's in TNDave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
For those following the thread, I now have a LM leased truck and when I went to register in South Dakota they wanted $2500 in Excise tax before I could register, so I now have NY plates because there is no sales or excise tax. Beware of those making blanket statements,( everyone knows there are no taxes on leased trucks), most times they are wrong.

I figured it had something to do with the F.E.T.. That should be covered in the lease payments. -
According to the Landstar driver in the video above, you will owe taxes based on the sales price of the truck once they give you the title. So if you end up paying 60k for a Prostar, you will owe sales tax on 60k. Here in Texas, where I'm at, I believe that's $3750 @ 6.25% rate
77fib77 Thanks this. -

Not in my state of TN.
Register it with lease paper work.. $25
Use landstar contract to get Base Plate without getting a dot number.
When it's paid for just take the title and landstar contract (to show you run under there dot #) pay $20 and you have YOUR TITLE and no tax -
