This has probably been asked a hundred times but now it's a hundred and one times. I mailed in to get my hazmat (which I should of done last year after passing background check) any tips to pass the test? I know about going though the practice test on this site. I did that to get my CDL and tanker. Also side note I noticed that atlat le in Maine they upped prices for permits and endorsements. I remember it being $10 per endorsement but now it's $20 and CDL A permit is $70

    Most questions are common sense.
Hardest part is memorizing all the classes and what cant be loaded together.
If you can memorize the chart..your golden.

Write the info on the back of your hand,,,stupid GD test. Everytime I took it, I studied for hours, failed miserably, and I swear, none of the questions they asked were in the book. So I said, nuts to you, and never hauled hazardous again.

I've hauled a lot of hazmat, biggest thing you gotta remember dont spill it!!

If you wanna pass the test just memorize the chart that shows the classes.
Also memorize what has to be placarded and what doesn't. Some stuff if it weighs 1001 lbs or less doesnt need a placard. Some stuff has to be placard at all times.

If you can count to ten, there are 9 in classes Radioactive is 7, boom boom is 1. On down.

I too got out of hazmat because it really never paid more than regular potato chips. But some of the detail work has stuck in me.

Most of it should still be common sense you should be ok.

I believe most, if not all, states have a master test bank. The questions you get are pulled randomly out of that test bank. When I re-did the test about a month ago, I had three questions on the same subject. So, if you are unsure of an answer, skip the question, and maybe the answer to an earlier question is in the verbiage of a question they ask later on.

    Good luck.

    Read the book.
    Take practice tests.

You'll have about 3 weeks before Augusta sends you a test date. Plenty of time to do what you gotta do.

    Endorsements are $20 - that's true.
Background check is $86.50..... get your TWIC card while you're there.

It's not common sense, it's random crap that you will likely never have real life experience with. I've been hauling hazmat for 5 years and would fail the written test if I didn't take practice tests. For example, "A transport index relates to products that are..." is a question on the test and the answer is radioactive material. Sounds good, I'll keep that in mind next time I haul a nuclear reactor down the road.

    Hazmat is a pain anyhow.
You have to take all the loops around major cities.
You don't get paid the extra miles.
All these hazmat companies rarely have the high quality placard holders,so they constantly fall off
Nothing better than trying to tape placards to a wet trailer..but you do get a big 1 cpm bonus!
