I got given a hot load that was 1600 miles and 3 days to do it. Then a pre plan half way there for an 1800mile load. 4 days to run it, closer to 3.5.
Well I had to shut down because of the snow, I couldn't see farther than the fender mirrors. It let up and I headed out, only to get stuck 50 miles later because of a fatal accident. That took several hours to clear.
I'll pick up 5 hours tomorrow and I'm 500 miles away. Now dispatch is pissy I'll be a day late.
I gross less then 500$ normally last week was 200$ because they give me tiny runs with huge wait times. Now they give me tons of miles with no time. Is this common?
Stressful loads

Yep.
You are command of the truck, dispatch is just dispatch, they are not in the cab or know what they are talking about.Lepton1, singlescrewshaker, Coover and 6 others Thank this. -
the load is not stressfull. is Middle East peace at stake? Is the orphanage on fire? Nursing home flooded?
more than likely not. Now if the Brewery runs dry, we have an issue.Lepton1, buddyd157, intrepidor and 4 others Thank this. -
That is just another day in the office.
You get new appointment times from dispatch. The load will get there when it gets there.
Your trip planning should always include weather in winter. ALWAYS. Never take her into a storm you know nothing about in advance.
By the way your trip is not stressful. It's taking me back so many happy years. 1500 in three aint nothing, when it can be done in two and change.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
You probably are like me, getting very worked up about not meeting my commitments. I hate being late anywhere. But outside of this, there is not really a problem.
x1Heavy, Lepton1, TripleSix and 1 other person Thank this. -

The load don't get there till you get there driver. If it does than you screwed up. Better to be safe than sorry, I always say and any other cliche that fits.Don't ever let dispatch bully you or guilt you, they're not out there, you are and it's up to you to arrive safely and in one piece.Good luck and be safe. Like another hand said, the life you save may be your own, or someone else's.
