I heard some of them hiring straight out of CDL school but most in my area require 6-12 months of experience.

1st year OTR stage and then reefer: about $50,000
OTR reefer 2-4 about $60,000 out 3 to 4 weeks and 5-6 days off

5th year: Home every weekend and once during week running specialized refrigerated Pharmaceuticals and Plasma.
Light loads. A lot of dead heading. A lot of international loads to airports.... 1/2 the time away as OTR.... small company with about 30 drivers... Christmas bonus that almost made me cry!! Lol
About $60,000+ and I love it

OK, Flatbed with large company. 1st 5 months to end year - 28k, 1st full year 65k, 2nd - 69k, 3rd - 65k & I missed 2 months with broken arm(not job related, did it on home time) short term disability paid about 750 weekly. I’ve got 2 friends that started at same time & all #’s are similar, they where both mid 70’s last year. All on pace for mid 70’s to low 80’s so far this year. Oh yea, that’s no training or any other bonus bs, just doing the job. We all run similar, stay out 6-8 weeks, then take 10-14 days off. Hope this helps.

if i had it to do over i’d do my best to work for an ltl outfight right out of the gate. i’ve been on linehaul almost 4 years now, love it. city work isn’t bad and pays decent, but offers “day shift” hours.

I've been considering the ltl route. Saia has a terminal within an hour of where I live. OD is there too, but they are a bit further away.

The driver-facing cams and those uniforms are kind of turn-offs, but everything else looks good. I can make what I am making now driving solo. Doubles req a delicate touch but I think I can handle it. My lane control has improved a lot over my first year.

    First year sucks.
If you signed an employment contract, your working at a reduced rate.
After the first year,if your not taking home $1000 every week..you company is taking advantage of you.

I'd think hard about that if your planning on returning home daily. That nearly hour long commute each way can really add on to an already long day.

I ran Linehaul for a while. After working a 12-14 hour shift then having to drive 45 minutes home got old really quick...

Running doubles isnt hard the hardest part is learning how to get them hooked. Figuring out how to maneuver that dolly can be a little tricky. Like anything else practice makes perfect.

Another obvious thing is you want to make sure you know where your going before you make a turn pulling doubles, dont want to get yourself in a pickle having to back out of a closed road or something like that with a set of doubles...

The terminal I worked at had a couple guys in the past end up where they shouldnt have been.and had to unhook the trailers on a street, then rebook them.so they could get turned around... LOL... that will make for a long night.
