    ...if you have been a independent O/O for 3 to 5 years ++ and are still at it you have my highest respect. Owning these massive animals and running them as well as all of the back office crap makes you one of the hardest working people I know. Just wow....

    In hindsight....if I was young and starting over...the very first thing I would do....before ever buying a truck and running a load...would be buy a small building and hire a tech and run that as a separate business.

    Then I would get set up to stock and sell tires.

    Then I would become a O/O.

    It makes it much much more difficult and much more expensive when all of these things are separated.

    Not really I guess same as everyone. Mattflat is for flatbed.

    5k in new tires and it only takes one load of improper inflation to take one out....and then the one next to it if you don't catch it....not even mentioning the roads that take them out!

    All of this....ALL of it...is beyond ridiculous.

    I agree that starting a repair shop first would be a great idea. Keeping trucks running is a giant pain in the ###. Seems like as soon as I get on a roll for loads I have a breakdown that costs me a week of time, and most the money that was made for the month. It’s a hard racket for sure.

    If the truck you are driving is that unreliable, why not replace it? I know that's no small expense, but if you are regularly losing entire weeks, that's a LOT of lost income that could buy a decent truck.

    Taking care of your tires is easy with technology but cheap owners don't even invest in a good tire gauge, let alone a $500 tire monitoring system.
