The folks at Detroit say there is no warm up required. Start it and go.
Since they designed it, they should know.
How long do you warm up your rig before driving.

If above freezing, warm up maybe a few minutes, just to get my stuff situated. Below freezing, maybe 5 min, i like to see coolant and oil temp begin to register (100). I use 15w40 all year.
Oxbow, Brettj3876, Midwest Trucker and 3 others Thank this. -
when i come back out, and depending on if my load is ready, i take off down the industrial park road at the speed limit...once i get to the highway, it's full speed ahead.
if my load is not ready, i shut it down, then when i restart, drive slow(er) to the highway.....then full speed ahead.
most times, my load is waiting on me, very rarely do i have to shut it downTb0n3 and LoneRanger Thank this. -
Depends on age and condition. Brand new truck you start her up and idle 1-2 minutes then slowly accelerate. Once temps are near operational temps you can run her hard. Not sure about new trucks but I know older trucks also need a cool down period to protect the turbo meaning after running hard leave the truck idling for a couple minutes then you can turn it off.
Tb0n3, x1Heavy and LoneRanger Thank this. -
on my 06 isx I let it warm up to 150 then I go. I have seen guys blow engines for not letting them warm up. the metal and gaskets needs to expand

Well, I’m confused. Can someone decifer these two instructions? They seem to contradict one another. It’s from a Detroit engine manual for the DD15 & DD16.

What I really would love to have is Exhaust Gas Temperature in each of the 6 cylinders at the manifold. That way when the small column of 6 temperature readings in the dash agree within 2 degrees of each other give or take all of your cylinders are doing very well. When one or more are way off in either direction you can make educated guesses as to the problem. We have this in aviation, why we don't have that in trucks is beyond my understanding. -
It’s interesting as this truck i think high idles around 800. Turn cruise on and engage.

Detroit 60 series - crank it up, do pretrip, burn rubber.
bzinger Thanks this.
