50k a year is probably close to starvation money in some major metropolitan areas.
The median home price in California is close to half a million bucks. If a person is making 50k they won't even be able to make their house payments on anything that isn't a falling down shack..
I live in a rural area in the northern part of California. 75 to 100k is a good income for a comfortable lifestyle here but it's not big money. -
Ive had good luck in California.
We joked that we would have the house movers in NLR come out put our home on a couple of heavy hauls and take it to a acre somewhere in Cali and sell for a million 5. Pocket the difference in expenses of moving said home.Lumper Humper Thanks this. -

I actually thought about the california scenaro.
20,000 for a acre somewhere.
Cut house in half, expected dimensions 15 high at roof peak lengthwise, 15 wide and 42 long for each of the halfs. Reducing the unnecessary foundation which will be in place anyway the weight should be about 12000 on each half. It's a overdimensional load more than anything.
2000 miles at 5.00 a mile, two trucks 10,000 dollars. Throw in 5000 for permits and such. 15000 gone.
Setting new footings and foundation flood ring and piers under house at new site probably about 10K give or take.
45K spent.
Sell house at 1.5 million, Eat 10% in taxes, eat 10% in commission. Keep Acre of land as income rent.
Anything happens to this house, buy another similar home (Site built, not modular) and ship it west to that acre, repeat process. -
Where else are you going to have as much fun, not to mention be your own boss. When I'm behind the wheel of a big truck I'm home. It's not a job, it's a lifestyle. Heck, I gave up being a biker to be a trucker, so how smart am I.(I miss the heck out of that old scooter, the new one isn't near as nice).

Yes drivers are the only people in the world dumb enough to work for free.
Tombstone69 Thanks this.
