Was it hard to give up your pension? (Or will you still get something bc you were there for so long?)

How do the health insurance compare to what you get thru Teamsters? We opted for the $33(ish) a week family plan for the lower deductible and copays. We like having low healthcare costs - our biggest concern is moving to a company with a crap health insurance plan.

The health insurance here is definitely not a strong point, and probably won’t come close to the Teamsters plan. There are a few different options, and depending on the State/DC he goes to, there may be HMO/PPO plans available. There are many good benefits with over here, but the health coverage, IMO, isn’t one of them.

There is always work available. I left an LTL after 14 years. Our insurance is nowhere near as good as UPS, but isnt horrible. The only regret i have leaving my last job is...not doing it sooner...

Currently, there is a lot of slip seating. So good luck making 45-55K. As A New Driver.
Ive been with Walmart for 15 years. And Generate 348$ ADP Average Days Pay. But I have my Own Tractor. I Work a 5 day out Bid. And I keep my work week at 5- to 5.5 days. I make 80k a year. With Bonuses,, 86K. And I would give up 15k of that, If I went home every night. . Also add 42$ a day for sleeping in the truck.
So, If you have your own Tractor assignment, And You become really efficient at you etd' "
"when you will arrive at your next location" for a new dispatch.,, And want to run 6 days a week, which you will need your own tractor for that, And Be away from your family all week, And Get fat from eating wrong, Because your running out your 11/14.. Etc, etc, etc. You might make 65-k as a New driver.

Geez, way to be a debbie downer. When I started here I slip seated just like everyone else, never extended my work week, worked appropriately 64 hours/week 5days and done. Made 84k first year.

Went up every year after, 87k, 93k, 98k and I still dont extend work week.

Yes slip seating does suck, but if you're only making what you quoted above there are other factors in play that need to be dealt with.

There is slipseating. Once you get a system, it doesn't take long to swap trucks. For the money I posted about, I worked a 5 on, 2 off with an assigned truck....but my first year (2013), I made just over 90k, slipseating and running around Chicago. My ADP is hovering around $400 or so. I think $86,000 is doable even when slipseating.

So some of the new guys I run into swear that the 86k a year first year is a lie and they would be lucky to bring in even 65. Is it because they don’t run hard or what?
