Hi everyone. I have a Cat 6NZ that is coming up on a million miles. I’m looking for the best and most honest rebuilder in the Northeast that will do a platinum kit and warranty for my engine. I’m willing to travel a bit if necessary. I believe they still finance the job for 18 months interest free, but I’ve heard stories about some dealers telling you to get qualified for so much, not that you’ll need it and then “bang” they find everything they can to charge you for. Thanks in advance for any comebacks.

The short answer to your question is ,NO.

You will however have to have the rebuild done at an authorized CAT distributor to get any factory OPT extended coverage, warranty.

The good part about CAT is that any official CAT parts that are hung on the engine during rebuild are covered under the duration of the warranty.

These engines are getting older by the day. Dealers will likely be limited with options for technicians capable or experienced with building the engines on a daily basis due to their age depending on location.

Do your homework and shop around. There is more than enough info contained in the archives to ask questions to the repair center to find out if they are capable of performing a quality rebuild. Bottom line, quality will cost more.

If i where to have one done, i would take it to a guy that makes Youtube videos Adept Ape is his channel. He's very knowledable and seems honest. Or i would do it myself.

That's the ticket, do it yourself(if you have the time). They're not real complicated and things like the head, crank, injectors, etc you can source out. What a learning experience it would and you'd certainly save a lot of money.

If ge gets a platinum kit with steel top pistons it will come with the head and everything new or remanned. Only thing he'd be charged for is the core for the pistons if his are aluminum.

I agree, great channel to learn about Cat. Don't know where he works out of though. The one thing about doing it yourself is it's always under warranty.LOL:p

I have a question, does it need to be overhauled at a million miles?
