Hey there....
In case you have been wondering what happened to me (and if you didn't, you wouldn't be reading this), I am still here. Been doing a lot of driving and making miles. And my "social schedule" on the phone keeps me pretty busy at night. Plus trip planning, cooking (oh I have the coolest setup in my truck), and of course, sleep.
Anyway, I am just south of Minneapolis right now and tomorrow morning I deliver in central Minnesota, then pick up and run back to NC by Monday morning. So I will have some time to get caught up here on the forum.
So until then....
Big arf! -
Thanks for the update. Drive safe! By the way, I've heard things are pretty nasty in Fargo right now. Hope all the company folk are ok.

wow scooterdawg, it sounds like you have hooked up with a decent company.... i start repeating my driving school education on monday (second time through.. first time was 10 years ago). i hope i am lucky enough to find a company like magnum.... i will definitely be applying over there... keep up the good posts man, i will keep reading on how you are doing...
-
Scooter, sounds like you did some homework and could relate on the cooking scene a bit. Did you find any great deals we should know about? I'm thinking that an initial outlay for some utensils and appliances would pay for itself very quickly. And time cooking is time you're also doing logs, housecleaning etc. instead of sitting in the TS restaurant wasting money and grey matter next to a guy who can barely spell DOT.

Now, how much do I like my dispatchers? Yesterday, I was heading to Willmar, MN to do a delivery and I talked to the dispatcher. He gave me my choice of loads. "I have one going to North Carolina, and I have one going to Fargo.... which would you like?" hehehehe can you guess what my reply was? So now I am on my way to the Carolinas.... hehehehehe. And what makes it even better, today I received my loadout after I deliver on Monday. Charlotte going to Appleton, WI.
Let me tell you... I have been stuck on docks all day.... I have waited for dispatches.... I have had to swim through the "trucking muck". But the way I look at it, I am paying my dues, and the lessons I learn will help me deal with things better next time it happens. And I am sure it will.
My dispatchers treat me well and keep me running. In turn, if they need a trip handled..... "I'm your guy!" (tail wagging). Sure, there have been a couple shorter trips, but you know what? I could have been sitting in a truck stop, making a pitance they call Layover Pay. Instead, I am driving down the road getting closer to "the big one".
A company is as good as you let it be to you. Period
Good luck
I bought my TV at Walmart. 13" (which is all you really need) Magnavox with built in DVD player and it is Digital ready. On sale for 130 bucks. I also have one of those little mini crock pots, which is perfect for cooking a can of soup (large can)(Chunky or maybe Ravioli). To end it, I bought a Rival S11P electric skillet (Thank IronRydr for that tip). I can cook literally ANYTHING in that.... eggs, bacon, hamburger, steaks, hot dogs, WHATEVER.
One 14 day run of eating at the TS's will more than pay for all of this. And you can eat better too. Not to mention you dont ave to spend time talking to someone who likes you a lot better than you like them hehehehehe.
So there you have it..... my advice...... (that'll be $19.95)
I'll have to tell you some of my "recipes" sometime._ton bundle Thanks this. -
I thought you might be headed to NC for some home time, but it sounds like your going to turn right around and pick up after you drop.
-
Forget your advice: that's the price of the skillet!!! I'll be needing that!
As an old motorcycle camper come weightlifter (spelled 'eating simple'), I'll not be needing much in the way of recipes.
I'd start feeling a little weird about swapping too many of those anyway... -
Yesterday, Magnum Logistics (Magnum's brokerage division) was rated at 'F' with an average of 42 days to pay on Internet Truckstop (anything over 30-32 days to pay is not good). There was a note on ITS saying that the Brokerage Bond was set to be cancelled on 4/30/2009. It takes a lot for a brokerage even to get a 'B' rating on ITS, let alone an 'F.' I would post a link, but you have to subscribe to ITS and I don't subscribe to it on my home computer.
A company of Magnum's size needs a brokerage to operate, so this is not good. They would protect their brokerage at all costs to keep it operating, if they could. I have no motivation to post incorrect info. I have said previously in this thread or the other Magnum thread that my company does some work with Magnum. I like Magnum and think that they are a good company and don't wish them to fail. I just about fell out of my chair when I saw their thier rating, I was shocked.
You sound like you keep your ear to the ground, but I want you to have as much info as possible. Magnum LTD, LTL and Logistics are technically 'separate' companies, but they are all connected. Good luck!ScooterDawg Thanks this. -
The brokerage arm (Magnum Logistics) of the company goes out and generates the contracts with the shippers, who agree to pay the brokerage firm when certain conditions are met. Then Magnum Logistics will find a carrier to transport the goods. They probably primarily use Magnum TL and LTL, but broker the rest out to other carriers. With every company they broker freight to, including Magnum, there are terms established which dictate payment period, and the industry standard is about 30 days. This gives Logistics time to collect from the shipper.
If my understanding is correct, as well as your information, then there could be any number of issues at play, all of which need to be remedied.
Andrew_ton bundle Thanks this.
