I have a 2013 freightliner cascadia and I am new to this def stuff so I was low on cash and almost out of Def so I go inside to the fuel desk at Johnson's corner in Loveland Colorado and told the cashier lady Here is 13 dollars to pre pay for def and gave her the pump number . I go back outside and couldn't find the handle so I pushed the def button and the light lit up and I grabbed the normal diesel hose and pumped it it looked clear but it smelled like diesel . Ended up being 2.5 gallons . So I went inside and asked for a receipt and asked if the def came out of the same hose and she said yes and she grabbed my receipt and said even look here it Says you pumped 2.5 gallons of DEF so when I get back home to Colorado Im going to go back to the truck stop and see if there is a hidden Def door but like I say my receipt says I pumped def . I told a co-worker about it and he said he never heard of a place where def came out of the same hose he said maybe possible but he doubts it . The good news is I've drove Maybe 3000 miles and truck running fine. Maybe such a small amount and once my company fixed my fuel card and I filled the def tank up that it diluted the small amount of diesel that was pumped in it 20 gallons approximate of Def to the 2.5 gallons of diesel . Or else there is 2.5 gallons of diesel just floating in the top of the tank lol as I have heard the specific gravity makes it so the diesel would actually float.. also I have heard that the computer would sense the diesel in there and adjust the burn accordingly . Like I say the good news is its made it over 3000 miles without any sort of issues and running fine . So I'm crossing my fingers lol . All I know is don't run out of Def either because truck will not run as I was in sleeper birth and my truck was idling and I get up to start driving and truck was out of Def so I limped the truck 13 miles to Limon Colorado and truck would go from 1 mph to maximum of 15 mph and took me more then an hour to limp it to find some def and a place that was open at 3am . So I added Def and the truck started running fine then I left that place and noticed I was dragging a huge ### boulder rock and it caused me to have to get 5 air lines to my trailer replaced.. So needless to say running out of def caused over $ 600 dollars in damages with having to get the air lines on my trailer replaced . So not a very good night!! Then a couple days later I was called into a level 1 Inspection in Montana and failed due to one brake not working properly and come to find out that the mechanic that fixed my trailer air lines up had hooked that specific brake line up backwards so that was what caused that brake to have no movement and caused my violation., so fun fun fun . Moral of the story don't run out of Def as it could cause a whole list of troubles lol . Everyone stay safe out there!!!!!! Take care all !!!!!!!

I have heard of guys putting def in the diesel tank. I am not sure how you get diesel in the def tank though.
It happens when you don't show people what goes where. They assume it's like a fuel injector cleaner or something.
When I first started driving cars at 16 I read an auto mechanics for Dummies book so I can understand the basics of how my car worked. But never heard of def until I started trucking. -
LMAO..Midnightrider909, magoo68, sdaniel and 1 other person Thank this. -
I read it, but I didn’t notice that lol -
Seems to have a paying attention problem.
magoo68 Thanks this. -
I do not believe that anyone actually put a diesel nozzle into a def tank opening.

At least he wasn't dragging a car.

Wouldn’t hooking up the air line incorrectly result in the spring brake not releasing unless the brake pedal was depressed?
