Was around 7:30 this morning. I live about 35 miles as the crow flies from there and the boom was pretty loud here. They say it was heard all the way over in Texarkana.

He knew what he was carrying, and what could happen...and tried extinguishing the fire anyway rather than retreating to a safe distance. Part of me thinks that was rather heroic given the severity of the explosion and the potential for others to have been harmed. The other part of me says it was foolish to put himself in harms way like that with a family waiting for you at home. Got to wonder what caused the fire...blown wheel seal? Low tire pressure? Hung/dragging brake? Why wasn't THAT problem noticed and addressed BEFORE there were flames? Guess we'll never know.

This is why you need to pay attention and watch your mirrors...not just for other traffic, but to spot potential issues with your own rig.

The way I understood the local news was he tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher, then ran away to evacuate people close by, then ran on his way back to the truck. I may be wrong, but that's what I understood the news to say. Why in the world he decided to run back toward the truck, I dont know. Maybe the neighbors had a fire extinguisher?????

I was a milk tanker once with a brake fire due to the older system in the mack in that situation it got stuck and burned, I put it out before it spread. Fire dept showed up and made sure it's out. I was able to complete the delivery believe it or not.

I am aware of the explosion from where I sit. Im not surprised. That stuff is pretty common. If it was me hauling and she caught fire Im gone. Bye. Find a phone to call everyone but I aint going back to that thing. Let it burn or blow up. You can only do so much with a tiny fire bottle. 6 seconds squirt and that's it. Time to go. If it's big enough she'll blow.

He's probably sitting up there with St Peter at the gate asking himself why in the world did he run back to that truck. Who knows. It's the same as keeping people out of burning houses, once they are out you cannot let them back in slug em if you have to.

We had a hazmat tanker wreck a few years ago here in White County and we got word pretty fast and looked it up and they evacuated exactly one family on that corner where the wreck happened. It was taken care of.

Back in 1980 or so there was a nuclear Titan Silo north of Searcy that caught fire and burned. Coughed the 9 megaton warhead right out of there and blew the cap off. There it sits on the ground burning. We are fortunate it did not go off, there would literally be no Arkansas. The blast would have reached all 4 of our borders at that time.

Fortunately the titans are out of service replaced by better weapons. Birdie says there are 54 peacekeepers in storage at Jacksonville Base but we would not be in a position to know. I saw first hand one of the missile cars passing by on the railroad a decade ago. I knew what they were. It was pretty much rusted out so it's not something they would shoot from anyway.

Until the next time something goes Boom. We had one in our area two or three weeks ago. Homeland is still trying to find the source of that one. They ruled out pretty much everything else excepting a possible McVeigh Scenario test run or something. So they are looking.

My god, poor feller, man that road looks like a sinkhole opened up , i cant imagine what was goin thru the poor guys mind , he probably knew he was gonna die just wanted to try and put the fire out to keep it from exploding, man i cant even imagine what id do if i were in that situation , i think id just pull the 5th wheel and gun it down the road and get away from it

Reminds me of a old movie where a tanker truck with a COE 9000 hauling some rocket fuel in LA downtown probably industrial district with John Candy in passenger seat. The thing blew up.

Now if it was a real hazmat truck with placards and rocket fuel, I don't expect survivors, the end of the movie rolled credits where you can see that the tanker was precut for show time pyrotechnic fire etc for movie effects etc. I think they did a credible job but eh... it's mostly for those who never did any of that stuff in hazmat. And endless bullets and so on. There is alot that hollywood tries to do, but they cannot really have that rocketfuel vs a RPG or whatever it was.
