That is very easy to explain. On average the maximum weight of a truck is 80,000 lbs in the US. Now I understand that you can get a license for these 180,000 lbs tippers for that maximum weight of 180,000 lbs, and that you can use them on specific stretches of road with a special permit.
That doesn't work over here. The maximum weight of a truck is 50 tonne in the Netherlands, so for a tipper as well. These mining tippers may have a maximum weight of 100 tonne. Now you may get a license for them, but only for 50 tonne, leaving you with a legal payload of 20 tonne. No one does that of course, so these mining trucks have no license, they pay no road tax, no insurance etc. They are strictly limited to off-road work, and when they have to go to another place, they will be carried on a trailer.
Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

Now this whole time you’ve been arguing that these were 50 ton trucks, now all of a sudden they are a 100 ton trucks. That’s highly suspect.
-
No, these BAS Mining Volvo trucks are heavier than 50 tonne. They have payloads ranging from 40 to 75 tonne.

i started to hate netherland too, they are going to introduce here a "safety system" on highways that measure average speed and sent you a fine for that....that system came from NL

It's even worse. You have weighing stations along the highways, we don't. The scales are integrated in the roads, a camera takes a picture of your license plate, and if your truck or an axle is being overweight, you get a ticket by mail.daf105paccar Thanks this.

Weigh in motion has been in use in the USA for some years.
The Dutch "optimised" it .

spsauerland and Cat sdp Thank this. -
Alabama has two new virtual scales. They do the same thing. They use cameras to take pictures of the tag and mail a ticket.spsauerland and daf105paccar Thank this.
