@G13Tomcat, I’ve been thinking about your daughter and that bike...
We’ve all been trucking for a minute. Because we’ve been at this for a minute, we’ve developed this defensive game that keeps us out of trouble. Even when we are not 100%,, since defense is part of our daily habit, we stay on guard. But we have to.
Your daughter, however, hasn’t developed that defense like we have.
-She’s young. Remember when you were young? Right smack in the middle of the idiot stage?
-She has stupid friends. All of my stupid friends either smartened up really quickly or they all died or got locked up (I’d rather be dead) while young.
-She lacks experience.
-She’s going to lay that bike down.
So, if she hasn’t, before you hand her the keys,
1. make her go through the motorcycle safely course, and make her get the M endorsement.
2. Have her go to a parking lot and practice the slow speed maneuvers. WALKING SPEED. If she’s going to drop the bike, it will be at slow speed.
3. Lay down the law. Over 5, bike is gone for a week. Big speeding ticket (over 10+), bike is gone for a month. Over 20, bike is gone. You lay it down, you stick to it.
4. Warn her stupid boyfriend about his possible unsolved murder.
5. She should attend an advanced course within 6 months of the safety course.
6. Explain to her your “defense.” In particular cars running alongside matching speeds and tailgaters. There is no Right of Way and My Lane...that only works in cages.
7. Be courteous...she WILL stand out.Grubby, peterbilt_2005, Al. Roper and 9 others Thank this.
