Thats how john gotti got his start, stealing trucks out at the airport, JFK
I had a truck stolen out of lebanon, Tennessee in 2004. The FBI had a photo of the guy before i even knew my truck was stolen.
(Call EZ pass and prepass to see last locations used.)
The FBI handles truck thefts (interstate commerce) along with local cops.
The FBI told my insurance co. My truck was somewhere in Georgia and had been stolen by a truck theft ring out of Atlanta that was stealing trucks in TN on friday nights, using a warehouse thats probably in Atlanta and closed on weekends and off loading merchandise into smaller trucks and then dropping the stolen trucks at locations away from Atlanta.
I was lucky. There was a 2nd team of truck thieves were operating in the same area who were stripping the trucks at a nearby farm.
In my case they stole 3 tractors that night and crashed through a Toshiba tv warehouse and thought they were stealing trailers of 50” toshibas. I found my truck at a small truck stop with an Ozark trailer filled with the styrofoam thats used to package the tv’s
Within 6 months FBI caught the whole ring of thieves. They got the picture of all of them as they crashed through the gate and right past security camera.
What pissed me off is my truck was left at the entrance to a small town trk stop for 2 1/2 weeks before i found it. Not one employee noticed. To them all trucks are the same if it was there 10 yrs they wouldnt have noticed it.
When i drove for Greyhound, 2 of their buses were stolen from manhattan by a tour bus operator in brooklyn. They just slapped paint on them n didnt even change the plates.
Stolen Truck~~ Will it ever be found

It should make you paranoid.
Guy from roehl told me that they had a driver get to a chicago warehouse the night before his delivery.
2 a.m. guy knockin on door said, we just got out of a bar and drove by and saw your truck. Is it okay if we unload you now, that way we can sleep later in morning.
Driver agreed and was told to back into the dock. They signed his papers, unloaded him and he left.
Later that day driver got called by his dispatcher asking why he didnt deliver yet ....
The guys unloading him had busted into the whse and his truckload was unexpected icing on the cakeLast edited: Mar 25, 2019

A buddy of mine bought a 10-acre spread down in Florida that was once a mom and pop Trucking operation he went to level out and clear some of the land on the back 5 Acres and when they were all done with it they had actually found over 100 rigs that had been cut up and buried throughout the years of that mom-and-pop operation pop was dead and Mom claimed no knowledge so nothing ever came of it

Never had one stolen, Did leave the keys in ignition and doors unlocked for a few days, no luck though. Truck was still there.
-
Do they hotwire the trucks or were the keys left in the ignition? I know truck keys do not have the chip on them like cars.
-
I lost the key to an International Prostar the other day, I was able to open the door with a wooden coffee stirrer and a piece of baling wire. Then I was able to change out the ignition in a little more than 30min with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers, and I was taking my time. A pro could probably cut that down to 10min. The moral of the story is watch where you park and take extra measures to protect your asset, the job you save may be your own.
