And 10.00 in quarters, plus two hours to get in find a spot park, call and call again have a meal and call and call... and get out to where?

If there isnt any place to be with that load why roll at all. Stay and have dinner and a movie or something.

    Next morning.

WHY DID YOU STAY AT THAT STOP ALL DAY YESTERDAY.

Wot?! So and so on the phone said this that and something else related to nothing updated for the load stay where you are and call back, why dont YOU call so and so and ask HIM that same question. I don't know nothing.

pause Silence. Call be back later.

8 am I wonder when eating breakfast if anything will be done at all going down the road today.

I dialed thepay phone once at eastland Texas to call home collect. The operator before I spoke a word, went to rattling off to me something in mexican. When she finished, I said lady, what would give you the impression that I could understand a thing you said. She told me she thought I was mexican. I had not uttered a word, soo I ask if she could see over the phone. lol

I remember one specific pay phone. Cooperstown 309 Truckstop SE of Allentown PA 309 at N mine Road. The payphone booth has been removed and the property further paved over etc. And developed somewhat with that new gas station.

    Anyhow.

It was a privately owned phone booth, not a Mabell, ATT or any of that. As such as it's own private business selling phone time with pay phones and booths, it had the ability to deny all free 800 calls. Like we would make to home base for dispatcher. The 800 number refused to go through. Fine. I called the operator.

Explained my situation as a trucker, 800 numbers to dispatch are free to me, company pays and your phone system is part of the American phone system telco system. I should be able to call that 800 number and see it go through.

    No. Sir.

We are a private phone company. 800's are not permitted on our system.

    WOT!?

That was the end of that. Drove to allentown and then west to a truckstop in Frystown before I got through with the 800 number to my dispatcher who by now is STEAMING.

No cell phones back then no internet etc.

As a company driver being limited to 63 nothing gets me more than having a truck pass me and disappear from sight.. then about 30-40 mins later seeing the same truck passing me again after a he stopped for a 30 or whatever.

Even worse finally about to catch a down hill in a tanker so I can’t get up to 68 and some guy comes around just to get in front and go 60 down the hill
