    There’s obviously little chance of that happening with the machine not running, but in some parts of the world it’s necessary to keep the police happy.

    I'm a BIG fan of over securing lots of things. JD combines? All 8 pts they offer plus a brake chain on the hitch. Case combines? 12pts of securement. ANY bulldozer gets 8pts of securement plus a 2" strap over the blade just for show. That strap takes 5min to put on and save 20-60min from the overzealous DOT. I-beams I'll put a chain or strap (always with edge protectors everywhere the straps touch raw steel) every 5 feet. Too many? I've seen lots of steel shift but have never experienced it. Plate steel ALWAYS gets a brake chain. Depending on the weight, it might just get 2.... Simple fact of the matter is, no one ever wore a 40-120,000 pound hat from OVER securing. If I see something on someone else's trailer that I feel isn't secured, I just get away from it. I don't even argue with other drivers anymore about the "proper" or "minimum" amounts of securement.

    Even a D3 or 450 John Deere? Why would you put 8 chains on a 15,000 pound tractor? And why does everyone worry about “the man”. If it’s done right there isn’t crap he can say, and if he does say something make him prove it

    Yep, I do the legally required things to please the man because no matter how dumb I think they are it’s low hanging fruit. However I’m not doing extra unnecessary stuff just to please him and I’m especially not doing it to please some self righteous jerk who’s looking down they’re nose at me.

    I can certainly appreciate that and if you look at the time I have since I joined this site, you'll see I've been around a while. I don't particularly care for these forums (of any kind,) anymore...for this exact reason. People take things out of context, so I tend to keep MY opinions to MYSELF. I only state the facts that I have experienced personally, right or otherwise. If a cop wants something done and tells me to his face, I tend to respect the fact that he has the gun and the badge at the moment. Once I leave the scene and he's out of sight, I can call it as I see it.

    My posts may be a bit "long" for some, but that's just because I like to elaborate a little more than some to get a point (my point,) across in detail, that's all.

    I get it though, you have your own little club here and like any other typical club, click, or forums...if we all don't have the same opinion on something then it blows up.

    I will be the first one to say, I'll refrain from any future comments from this point on now, because I'm not interested in wasting anyone's time with my long winded posts or effort to educate the already all-knowing. Never was any good at that.

    See now you’re taking things out of context, this section actually welcomes new members with open arms but we don’t welcome BS. We have many different opinions in here among the “regulars” and it even gets heated sometimes but we do have a radar for nonsense and sometimes you just have to be around a little to get through that.

    I will point out again since you said you said you only state the facts, what triggered me to respond to you originally was when you said that softeners are required by the DOT where chains touch, this is simply not true so there for it’s not a “fact” others have came in with the exact BS and have been called on it. So perhaps your one of already knowing that’s beyond educating. Look if you don’t want to post here that’s in you don’t blame us because we don’t hug you when you make a false statement.

    One more thing before I leave; I may oversecure my loads admittedly, but when I got a couple of compliments from a Va. DOT inspector on I-77 10 years ago with an HD 21 on with all the chains I use and all my firehoses at the contact points, and he pulls me around back not to inspect me but to commend me and take photos for training his men, I considered that a high compliment.

    And, being a respectful man and in this business since I was 16 years old which will now mark 41 years...I never get in anybody's way when loading or unloading. I'm aware of my surroundings at all times, and I do what it takes to be in my own space when I'm working. I bet even at my age, I can safely say I can throw my extra non-required chains and binders on faster than most of anyone here making fun of that scenario, and not have to babysit them on the way.

    That's all I have to say, and probably all you wanna hear anyways. That's why I stay to myself, and see it's even more valuable after saying a few things in this forum in the past couple months. I get it.

    I’m glad you got a compliment, means nothing to me when someone who knows nothing about what we actually do like a DOT man compliments me but enjoy it.

    I do commend you if you are one of the ones who has respect for others because this industry is sorely lacking in that department.

    Like I said in my last post, you don’t wanna participate that’s in you don’t blame us.
