You don't have to take my word for softeners not being required. All I'll say is, go drive into a NY state DOT check along the southern tier on 17/86 or anywhere in that communist state without them with 2 chains crossing and touching and then come tell me how you made out. Some of these "laws" written or implied, are not always in the manual. For instance...you are familiar with the FMCSA annual inspection decal that is "required" by law federally, and must have the hard copy in the truck as well? In my home state of Vermont, we have a state annual inspection we have to get done by a certified truck garage. In Vermont, the state inspection supersedes the FED's inspection. I'll bet that's a new one for most here...but I have 4 DMV inspectors that live within a 4 mile radius of me here and know them all personally. If I need any help with an interpretation of a Vt regulation I just sit and talk with them personally. There's more garbage that is below the radar out there for reg's than you could ever fathom.

Ain't no hugs required here either hoss....

I’d only look down on you if I was taller.

I once got a Ruby Tuesday’s gift card from a DOT officer when he saw my X cross strap securement with a supplemental load lock on a 40 pallet double stacked van load.

That’s nice of them to compliment you. And it’s nice of you to be considerate of others around you. But the fact remains most guys now days are not considerate of other people’s time. And the law enforcers make a lot of crap up as they go. You seem to think we are advocating piss poor securing and that’s just not true. Just because you add chains doesn’t necessarily mean they are doing any good.

I’m only 5’ 2” and about 375 pounds so looking down would be easy.

I remember hearing about that, those were pharmaceutical products that needed to be across the country in two days right?

I am certainly not advocating piss poor securement or the lack thereof humblepie....another example of how these typing conversations can get taken wrong.

I'll keep doing it the way I do it as it is permitted. The laws change constantly, and I don't have the time to keep up with them all, so I go along and when "advised" by a guy with a jumpsuit and a creeper or whatever that "the next time he sees me I better have this or that"...I grit my teeth and make it look like I care and comply. They're all revenuers anyway, nothing safety oriented anymore. But I also am a problem solver, not a creator so I play the game accordingly.

Excellent. Make sure you stop by and see the VT. DMV guys also. They love it when they see shiny spots in chains.

I’ve seen your pic posted before in winter overalls and an OSU sweatshirt. I pegged you for 350 tops. As far as the pharmaceuticals, that was actually a load of flannel shirts and hemp going from Orlando, Fl to Seattle, Washington.

I was supposed to run team since it was a two day run, but my partner had tickets to Maury Povich. So, I got my R model Mack with a 237 and a 5 speed, put some rubbing alcohol in the tanks and away I went. Got there a few mins early.

Been out here a long time to and I’m aware of the BS below the radar but they still have to defend what they write in court and I’ll darn sure make them do it. If they’re below the radar they’re not a law. Next time a New York DOT says something about chains touching make them write you and they’ll find out they’re wrong.

Your Vermont inspection sticker doesn’t supersede the federal one it exceeds it. Meaning it meets all the requirements of the federal one and it means nothing to those of us outside of Vermont.

You seem to get offended easily. I went back an reread our posts and I can’t find any where we have been rude, if I missed it I’m sorry.
