in your opinion is reefer a good place to make a career for company drivers? Does reefer become anything more than just miles?

Reefer is immune from economic downturns; you'll never be unemployed or see any difference in your paycheck if the economy takes a downturn. I know; I pulled reefers for 18 years.

Would you say a flatbed driver or heavy hauler would see more down time?

Everyone needs to eat. Plenty of food that needs some reefer love to get where it's going.

And here is a question for you...
If the climate keeps getting warmer, how many more loads might need to be refrigerated?

Even when the demand for everything else goes down, there will still be the same demand and need for frozen and cold food.

Depends on the economy. That's why I stuck with reefers; ran hard even during the recessions.

Lots more to temp control than jerks at grocery warehouses.
Most of what I haul out bound is temp controlled medical supplies.
It depends on what your carrier chooses to do and the market where the are based .

If you're hauling dry van and reefer, and pulling broker loads, it may be a tough to get good paying loads. The freight has been thin for whatever reason. Maybe its back to a recession. The truck to load availability ratio is always favorable to flatbeds. The other day I was in Pittsburgh with a reefer, parked on the side empty. My company couldn't find jack. 15 dry van/reefer loads available in the area, stretching out 200 miles. Flatbeds had hundreds of loads in the same span, now I cant say if the rates are good for flatbeds for sure, but you can at least run without taking days off with a skateboard. It's all in the megas hands right now

But in the bad times everyone finds an old reefer and takes your loads
