Can l use a log book if my people's net is down. I haul hazmat loads.

    You need to call the 24-hour hotline of the People Net headquarters and tell them about this. The hotline will then issue you a number of some kind. You'll use this number as proof that you reported the issue. Definitely do this when you run into this problem. Or when this problem runs into you.

    You have to have a logbook at a minimum as per rules laid out carefully by Vinny and Ridgeline.


    There is no excuse for any trucking COMPANY to fail to teach you the same. None. If I were you and the company did nothing at all... then I suggest you find a new employer, a more professional one who knows the laws that are required of them and you as a driver.

    Everyone else becomes bear bait. Waiting to be captured and written big tickets.

    Also make sure your as accurate on your paper log. Check when ppl net is back up it may have logged it by your GPS when it is back online
     
  7. I can't believe you have to ask that question SMH.
    you're hauling hazmat do you have to prove where you are ?of course you have to use a logbook anytime it goes down you always want to keep one log book handy because you'll have to do a daily log if the elog goes down to prove where you were.. that's something they taught years ago when everybody was using elog with Werner and people ask questions before the elog mandate went into effect almost a year-and-a-half ago what happens if it goes down you must have a paper log to back it up and use it..
    and you have a HazMat endorsement that should be a no-brainer

    While it's always good to double check, ELD's as part of the regulations cannot us GPS for HOS (just location data). They must use engine data.

    I thought the engine data has a GPS? When I set the brake on the truck it sends location ... Maybe it is something else connected to it

    I don't know all engines, but I haven't seen any that do. In any case it would still not be allowed.

    4.3.1.2. Vehicle Motion Status

    (b) If an ELD is required to have a link to the vehicle's engine ECM, vehicle speed information must be acquired from the engine ECM or the vehicle's databus. Otherwise, vehicle speed information must be acquired using an independent source apart from the positioning services described under section 4.3.1.6 of this appendix and must be accurate within ±3 miles per hour of the CMV's true ground speed for purposes of determining the in-motion state for the CMV.

    As for the ELD, will the ELD hardware gets the GPS info for location data.

    Can you, Yes you have to Hazmat or not does not matter. Even if the peoplenet is working your required to have a paperlog with you at all times.
