I'll be 60 very soon. I tried out the job when I was in my thirties but didn't stay long. Just under a decade ago, I came back and Im glad I did.
Go for it. I wish you all the best.dennisroc Thanks this. -
I do crude and haven't climbed a tank in years

Contact a local fuel supplier. Granted they wont be hiring drivers until October. Yet you will get training for free and average pay is $18 an hour. Tho I hope you have good knees. The company I went with was Dead River here in Maine. The requirement was to climb the ladder and to be there at the fill point to know when to shut off the liquid. Fuel companies will start you off with bunker grade oil so you can learn to drive. As your experience gets better they will give you thinner fuels. So you can learn about slosh. If they like you, they will keep you on a smaller truck for the summer. Good luck on your job.

I am a fuel tanker driver. Dumping gas is by far the easiest part of my job. I had to do only that and jet fuel dumps one winter and gained 30 pounds. Anyone can do it

See you on the road. -
Listen to me for a minute or two. I have a right to say this, because I'm not young. You are 64 years old. This post is almost comical. I know I'm gonna catch a bunch of flack over this, but don't care. If you want to drive, drive a box...refer or dry. I'm not saying you gotta lay down and die, but I am saying you need to be realistic. I can still climb on top of a tanker, I can still tarp a load, but I don't want to anymore. It hurts too much and I'm too old for that crap. Yes...you can enter that world, but how long can you do it? I'm not trying to be an xxxx but be real with yourself. Good Luck Driver.
