House on a grass airstrip. Sounds heavenly! I had the opportunity to get my pilot's license many years ago off a grass airstrip on Cape Cod in a Citabria. But, I was too immature to realize those opportunities don't happen often and I didn't pursue it at the time. There was some inadequate excuse, in retrospect (It was before marriage and kids), I let get in my way. I never completed the pilot's license. Closest I got was around 13 official hours (I worked line service while going to college at a regional general aviation airport and had about 40 hours of 'unofficial' time too). I did have 45 minutes in a Baron which was kinda cool to slip in with the C150 and Tomahawk time. However, along came wife and kids and never had the financial means to get back into it without being too selfish on the wife and kids (both money and timewise)
Anyway, No I am not driving yet. Literally just getting back into it. I'm unsure where I'm gonna go for training, but I am looking at Swift or Knight. No final decision has been made. I know the bad raps both have but I often question the expectations of those complaining. I have friends of my step-kids that have good experiences with both. Once again, expectations.
I love to drive, always have and I'd love to see the country. I foresee seeking out loads that go places I haven't been yet and see just how many different States and how much of our country I can manage to lay my eyes on.

I have traveled all over the states working on airplanes and seen some really cool places and some not so cool haha. Would like to fly the Cub up to Maine and down the east coast for a few states, bucket list :)
Went to Philippines in January for 3 weeks and in April I took 2 weeks off work and went to Ho Chi Minh City ( Saigon ) 6 days then Phnom Penh , Cambodia for 6 days then Bangkok , Thailand for 6 days had a great time. Had been to Bangkok before but Bangkok is always a crazy good time and all 3 places had some awesome food. My wife is going to visit her family end of june in Philippines so I will take another week vacation and stay home with the doggies lol
Keep me posted on jobs ! I like the Sodrel thing because I can be home every night. Get some experience and have other choices later.

Do you work for Carter Express or have info ? I was checking with them a few years ago and visited their place in Anderson Indiana. Seemed like a pretty good place and there was a few people on here with info. Might check back with them.

I think you are going to have a problem if you haven't had a US drivers license for at least 1-3 years. You can get the license and get a home daily job, if you live in the right areas, but I hope you have maintained a US DL.

Yep have kept my license updated all this time and have my address in Indiana on it also. So no problem there. When I get back to Indiana the most important license will be my fishing license :)

You might consider a driver temp service so you xan experiment with various local jobs and then decide.

LTL companies like Old Dominion, FedEx, UPS, Saia, Estes, and many others are the biggest home daily type companies. You might search Craigslist and Indeed to see others in your area. If you plan to live away from mid to major cities you home daily jobs are going to be trash, dump truck, fuel, etc. Not all jobs are available everywhere. Move if you have to.
