FMCSA looking into detention

How is it that you are figuring 10 drivers?

All that is going to happen IMO is that the program will be a success, the military deal will be waived and then these Mega companies will have just what they are looking for entering the industry.

Young 18 year old drivers who see that big number that these lease purchase scam companies advertise, who obviously know no better.

It's bad enough these grown men out here park at the fuel pumps , imagine how its going to be with some young punk 18 year old know it all...

To me bringing 18 year olds into this industry will just further drive it into the ground... Its pretty far as is, might finally reach the bottom.

 

Because the requirements are military personal trained in heavy equipment use 18-20 years old that have a job with a motor carrier. There are simply not many people that can meet those requirements.

I would hazard a guess there are an order of magnitude of 18-20 year olds driving intrastate pulling ag (especially this time of year) than would ever be in this pilot program.

Will it happen? I'm would not be the least surprised if it does but to say it's happening now, while technically true, is not really true in practice.

 

This is only being looked at because they thought ELDs would lower the accident rates involving trucks... But in fact it has done just the opposite... They are trying to save face. Until they acknowledge that 70% of accidents involving trucks are NOT caused by the truck that rate will stay steady or climb.

 

Here is my detention.

If your having problems loading the truck within an hour or two, I'm leaving.

 

Note as easy when you're at the receiver waiting to be unloaded.

 

When they see accident rates climb the next solution is an easy one. All heavy duty trucks will be mandated 65 mph or slower. That's what will happen when the next president gets elected, either Democrat or Republican, not named Trump.

 

Wont Do any good... 90% of fatal crashes involving trucks occur at speeds under 55 mph. All that speed limiters will do is increase the number of truck vs truck rear end crashes and side swipes.

 

Yea your kind of stuck with it at the receiver. But I have left before saying "I'm not waiting here all day to unload, I'm going back to the truckstop, or I'm going home"

 

Doesn't matter. There are lobbyist groups that want all heavy duty trucks speed limited to 65mph or slower and more importantly the ATA lobbyist wants it. It's going to happen within 10 years or less and nothing will stop it.

 

I said the same thing about electronic logs 15 years ago when all the talk was about "FMCSA only intends to impose electronic logging on problem carriers with poor safety ratings" I knew that was just the camel's nose under the tent with the real intent being to force all carriers onto EOBR. That's exactly what happened. Remember, the 65mph speed limiters deal was on their anti-competition wish list 15 years ago too. It is not a new idea.
