    Hey Scooterdawg,

Glad to hear that everything has been going well with you and your road adventures. Also, that you are staying safe on the road for yourself and others, I have not been on here for acouple of days due to the fact that I have been trying to track down some type of work in this dead economy of what is left in Michigan.

I have not heard anything from my plan b, with running for the Post Office here in Michigan so I assume that maybe he has decided not to put anymore drivers on the road. Have tried to contact him and he has not returned my calls so I have been looking. This economy is so bad here in Michigan that not even the concrete companies, or anyone is hiring drivers.

Hopefully someone on here might know of some family owned company or O/O needing drivers and give me some type of contact. I kind of p/o's me that I had my CDL's for many years before going in the Military and spent 4600 dollars to re-train and get them back on Feb and since I have not be driving since Feb, now some companies went me to take a refresher course and pay them more money on top of what has already been spent. I refuse to spend anymore money so I think unless I can find someone local to pick me up, I will just hang them one the wall to collect dust, and find maybe a job at something else.

I told my Wife that I am really disappointed in this whole take advantage of out of work people, that the trucking companies and schools are the one's getting rich off the backs of displaced worker. Telling student I guess that what they call us re-trained driver, that when you start classes that you have 90 days to get on with a company and then in the middle of it, it is changed to 30, and most of the company put hiring freezes into effect, and then after the hiring freeze pushes you past the time line to no fault of your own, they want you to take a refresher for more money. This is the biggest scam ever run on people, it is almost as bad as Obama's back to work plan for Michigan, rebuild road, brigdes, and make alternative battery power sources for the auto industries, what a joke, Most companies are not going to hire people to work on the road before they bring back all their laid off worker, and if the auto industries are failing into bankrupcies making people not wanting to count on auto jobs.

I guess that if something does not happen for me pretty soon, then I will be like alot of Americans out of work, homeless, repo'ed cars, and doing like our great Governor say " STAY THE COURSE". This approach has getting us so far,NOT.

Sorry for the venting Scooterdawg just had to get it out. So how has the weather been in Fargo, have they got there Operation back on track there? Maybe someone from Michigan that runs a small company or O/O needs a good driver and things will change.

Take care of yourself and stay safe buddies, maybe I will try to get in touch with Leith again, still have not heard anything from him, with everything going on there I understand.

    Thanks

    Jack

    Jack,
Have you tried any of the expedite companies? I've been talking to Panther and have been approved to work for one of their fleet owners. Have you talked to Churchill in Detroit and you might go to some of the outfits that haul containers. In the Columbus Ohio area there are some who are hiring and don't require much more than your CDL. Best of luck and never fear something will pop up.

    Hey luvtheroad,

I have contacted acouple of the expedite companies and with so many driver out of work you know rest. I will look into Churchill in Detroit maybe they might have something thanks for the information. People say move out of Michigan that is easier said than done, when just as many other states are in the same boat. We do have a big Container company in Detroit so I will look into that as well.

Hey Mark keep up the good Job buddy.

    Jack

    Hey there Jack -

LuvTheRoad has a point.... you might call Panther. At least that will keep your license active. Good call LuvTheRoad!

I do know there is reason to believe there will be some more hiring going on # Magnum soon. And that is all I can say. Just not sure when it will start. Call Leith... tell him you have been talking to Mark from North Carolina. If you can't get him on the phone..... keep calling. He's busy, but he is there. Never Surrender, right? Ooo-Rah!

special ops just added to my confusion over one thing: How long is a school certification good for? And is it set by the law, the school or the individual companies? It seems like I keep seeing different times by different posters.

it is a company thing .... they say it is due to there insurance carriers, but i tend to think it is just another setback due to the economic times we are in.... there are companies out there that are smaller and WILL take on drivers who are past that school to work time. you just have to find them. i guarantee if economic times were better, you would have no problem getting a job with no recent experience. i have been off the road for 10 years and was recently offered an OTR job with a smaller company. and they had awesome equipment and had a $700.00 guaranteed paycheck every week. anything over that 700 was based on percentage of load. but alas, i have decided to take the WIP school money and invest that in criminal justice... i am looking at being a dot officer.... sorry guys !!!!!

Well I am home.... Ran right up against the fringe of HOS to get here, but here I am. I have a whole laundry list of things to do, including things for Lil' Man. One thing that is nice is that when I get home, I have a complete workshop here and I can change the things in the truck that I dream up as I lay in the sleeper. Sorta like a mini version of Trick My Truck (poverty style).

Not really a whole bunch to tell you. I hate Atlanta traffic, I love driving up 85 between Charlotte and Greensboro in the spring, and Flying J's cheeseburgers are actually quite good if you get one as they are being rolled out from the kitchen. ehehehehehehehe

Oh, might be jumping out there ahead of the game, but (not sure when you'll hear from him) IronRydr got a new truck.... a 2007 with an APU nonetheless. It was sorta funny when he told me. I think he felt I would be upset because he got upgraded already and I hadn't.... and I didn't. I mean, he had been there longer than I have, and he was having some mild, yet potentially serious issues with his cooling system. Tickled to Death for ya Buddy.... You certainly deserve it, and I look forward to meeting the truck..... If you are reading this, do we have a name for it yet?

Oh well.... gonna pretend this is Easter Weekend. Girls are coming over, my baby (Erica) is going to be bringing here new (first REAL) boyfriend over to meet me. This ought to be interesting. Apparently he has been bugging her to meet me, and she and I both kept saying "Bad Idea". Apparently he is rather persistent. So if you see a mushroom cloud raise from the Raleigh area, you can rest assured things did not go so well... hehehehehe

Ya'll have a GREAT WEEKEND! I'll be checking in!
