Bertha is a 1964 I got her beat by four years. I have a couple of machines that are pre WWII, my smallest milling machine was built December 1941 before war production began and my big radial drill was made 39 or 40.

the company I worked for in 1978 to 1982 had two of these Hysters . They were old then.
We could transfer a 45000# long load by lifting from both sides at once and holding it up while one truck pulled out and another backed in.

 

Isn't it funny how equipment is labeled by different names depending on location.

The best ones are the two stroke Detroit Diesel forklifts.

 

I've done it with bridge beams.

 

I've always just called them reach forklifts regardless of the brand.

 

What ever y’all call it, I would like to have one. Them things are handy

 

No doubt! I like watching a good operator do amazing things with those. One of the really neat features is their ability to tilt the entire chassis from side to side, which can balance a forkfull of long pipe or allow them to keep that fork full level as the go sideways on a slope.

 

I had to remind the kid unloading me of that. He was taking whole 10k lb stacks with an 8k, maybe, telehandler. The forks weren't lined up to split the stacks so I told him he could level them himself. You know it's overloaded when the hydraulics can't rotate the forks up.
