Back into the pin and it won't bind. That's how you do it. Not lifting it up.

Can’t back in if trailer is lower then tires or frame. Have to lift the trailer up before I can get underneath it.

@LDLWells Has morning to do with my character, all to do with how my equipment is set up. Reason why you get out and look before you hook. Some run taller 5ths some run taller 5ths with taller tires. Then there are the yard dogs that could raise or lower the landing gears. Your argument is flawed.

Then why did you "break" two 5th wheels if you were getting out?

I’d rather have to lower one, than raise one up, Loaded. Either way some wooden blocks come in handy, in a jam, with or without dump valve.

That’s prior of me getting out. Now I get out. So I suggest you get out and look and not “depend” on others to do the work you are suppose to do. Then come on the forums and accuse other people for not doing the work “you” should be doing. You don’t know how much of a considerate guy I am or what I do. While others don’t report issues with trailers I do pre and post trips on all trailers I touch I report it so the next guy doesn’t have issues. So save the bs and get out and look adjust your own trailer to your rigs height. Not my job to do that for you.

I always leave enough room for my shoe to fit under landing gear, and use the dump valve. I use the same trailer, always dump when hooking, till I’m Under trailer.. inflate and hook. if I didn’t have a dump valve, I would put Landing gear all the way down, to avoid over inflating air bags, when dropping.Another trick, when hooking a high trailer, is to go under it, pull out quick over inflating air bags, get under it again, and quickly crank dollies up a bit. I’ve done that a lot, when hooking a high trailer, and landing gear is jammed and can’t be lowered easily. If all else failes get the blocks out.

Years ago, I had to hook a Trailer dropped too low, waited around for the Yard dog, finally got fed up. I jammed my day cab up under the trailer from the side, behind the landing gear, and cranked it down, I had another Driver tell Me it was impossible, so I had to do it. It worked. Lol. Old junky equipment, It didn’t matter.

You need to get frame extended . Pointed down on an angle.pretty common thing. Or lower tires, or low mount fifth wheel bracket, or a dump valve. Lol. I used to occasionally run into a high trailer, Usually by an O/O with a Truck specs for flatbed. Now pulling Dry Van.Dry Van max height should be 48”. To avoid problems for yourself or others in a fleet operation
