I actually think you might be one of the rare persons who could actually pull this off with no experience. However I do get the sense that while you probably could actually be successful at this you won't actually enjoy doing it.

Are you suggesting that all 2008-2014 trucks are bad? My searches are for trucks from 1998-2006. If I can get a Cummins isx 870 or 871, or a series 60 12.7 that would be my preference with a 13 speed, 10 speed would be ok. Thinking century with its good turning radius, Columbia, or better yet a Volvo for its better ride and better quality build. Maybe an International 9400i for the right price, a kw t700 perhaps. I probably won't buy a Peterbuilt unless I can get a well under priced one. a 579, a 389, or 387. No Cats.
based on everythign I've heard, read and reviews, I would buy a Freightliner FLD in a heartbeat, given one that isn't totally a rag with a 12.7.
Today, I'm leaning for a $12k-20k truck even if it needs 10k to make it road ready. My view on that may change as I continue to learn. I doubt that I would buy a non local vehicle without having a mechanic drive it and assess it. I'm like a sponge, I absorb a lot of information, then I ask about it and do my own independent research to determine its validity for me. I have to have one with a little tray on the side of the sleeper, so that i can put out a tin cup and sing while I'm in my wonderful shower, looking for tips.
I'm not confident enough in my knowledge of rear ends to go far either way of 3.55. I need to research that more, based on a particular deal. -
I don't care about getting into pre ELD. In fact, progressive gives a discount for having it and I figure its not all bad to have the records recorded automatically. I haven't looked into ELD at all, but get the idea of how it works. I will get one that I buy up front without a subscription fee, most likely. Gliders, even those being sold used now, always have a high asking price compared to others. A used glider is just a used newer body truck with an older, likely preferred engine series. If its used, I'd rather buy a few year older truck and not spend Glider money. My preferences are mostly around the driveline, not the brand of the truck. Sure I'd love a w900, but I doubt I will find one I will want to pay for. Another truck that people are proud of. I plan on starting with no payments, an expectation that surprise maintenance anywhere, is part of trucking. I will hate that part, but who likes it?

Fyi, the only difference between a columbia and a century is the hood and 99.99% of columbias had a central instrument cluster vs separate speedometer and tach. Identical in every other way.
Also 03 was the engine year egrs got implemented. So any engine 03 to 06 is going to be very inefficient and costly compared to an 02 or older. -

Theres a youtuber his channel is called life is good. Go back to some of,his,older videos he goes thru the process of getting authority. Although he transitioned from landstar , but it might give u some help. He is a real smart man and he is not driving anymore but running his trucking company, he has a couple owner ops leased on to him now. But anyways u might find it helpful. Look him up life is good

Does this guy have his class A yet? I was very sarcastic on any international truck. Baby wipes work wonders. Pretty much half my first tour to Iraq I used them many times a day to stay fresh when I was going down the road.
