It’s never taken me so long to fill out paperwork at a driving job before. -
2 minutes a night doing paperwork,
And walking to the back of the trailer 2/3 times
A week to open those doors is more than I can handle.
stay where your at, this place sucks.mushroom1464 Thanks this. -
I agree with what one of the old timers told me when i started at poly. The paperwork is annoying but for what poly pays us and by the hub, that 15 minutes of paperwork isn't nothing to worry about.
jdrentzjr, mushroom1464 and Western flyer Thank this. -

tucker Thanks this. -
Ok, so I have now been with Poly for one month.
In that time, I have had 5 days of holdover, 2 days of layover, and 1 day of breakdown (awfully maintained trailer I had to pickup for a backhaul)
8 days out of a month is pretty brutal for a one month period of time. Especially since I usually don’t typically take that much home time in a 3 month period.
Yes, I have been calling ahead to put myself on the boards and for backhaul.
One of their little “mom and pop” receivers screwed me over this weekend by ordering a load, then going on a vacation so that they had nobody to unload me. That is where the 2 days of layover come from.
The office girl “thinks” the staff will be back Monday, but isn’t sure because the manager of the place is off camping in the woods without a reachable cell phone.
I might end up eating another day, because with the uncertainty of the delivery, I don’t have a back haul lined up if I do indeed deliver tomorrow.
I’m withholding further judgment, and I’m not a job hopper so I’m not thinking of leaving over one bad month.
But.....ouch. Right on the cusp of being in violation of the 2000 mile a week rule through no fault of my own.
Going to give Poly the benefit of the doubt and hang in there for a while. -
Sounds like you're managing ok, but i definitely agree about the sitting to much. Most drivers are going through it way to consistantly. Try to focus on the details of the loads. When they come out and where. Sometimes not taking a load that day is the best option, or if you know the load you're on isnt great. Try to setup the next week for better miles. I try to avoid some of our plants on certain days and for the most part it works for me. For example Carolina poly sucks on a friday or Saturday. Up north sucks on a Wednesday or Thursday. Grand prairie i do better Friday through Sunday. Thats basically how i try to work it. Good luck and hope you sit less. -
I've had 38 days of holdover/layover so far this year. I really dont like seeing dozens of contractors/ owner ops taking loads out of poly while I'm waiting 1 or 2 days to pick from the very very short list of outbound loads...
Last year was way better.. I also av about 2100 miles and 2 days layover a week
