You see all those straps? Do you think I carry that many edge protectors?

I crank my 4" hand ratchets with the binder bar on one side and winch on the other whe hogtie-ing. You can strum freebird on that strap, overlap or not.

When doing a wrap and the straps will overlap, run the end to the winch under the part of strap hooked to the opposite side. Then the bind point is eliminated, and the strap will tighten across its full length.

Better is if you can offset the strap ends 4 to 6 inches, so the strap lays side by side.

If you don’t overlap your strap you will be able to do that with just the winch.

There’s a good trick for that, especially on low loads like what you’re doing. I am not here to bust balls, just throwing it out there for those that might not have thought of it.
Run the second half (the unused portion) of strap back over the load under the first half (the part you get taut) and voila, edge protection.
Ain’t fool proof, I would not do it on exceptionally sharp edges, works pretty good on Stuff that just needs a little cushion.

Yep. On that load no edge protection was needed. There are no sharp edges, except for the very ends, on box tubing.

An overlap strap doesnt like to tighten right?

Well it also doesnt like to loosen, and thats my goal. Overlap with 2 pull points is what im trying to show.

Well I guess that’s one way to look at it. I’ve never had one come loose that wasn’t over lapped.

The problem I encountered with overlapped bellies, no matter if I had a winch on either side, is that overlap defeats one of the primary reasons I use them in the first place. Whenever I hauled a load of directional tools for the oil industry it typically had drill motors and collars, each can weigh upwards of 6000 lbs. The drill motors are high impossible to move sideways with a winch bar, because of the fins and the last 5-10' at the business end has a curve. Often no matter how good the forklift operator the motors would have a gap of an inch or more to the next motor or collar.

The only way to draw that load TIGHT together is with a belly wrap on both ends, one that can suck those heavy motors and collars together. If you wrap the strap on top of itself it's impossible to draw it tight.
