ok so here’s the deal, right now I am limited to choosing a pre egr truck because all that new jazz cost extra money for maintenance and it’s more complicated. Anyone out here know how to work on these new trucks and keep them alive? I’ve heard a lot of horror stories and everyone I speak to just says stay pre egr but there’s new trucks selling every year so SOMEONE is buying them and learning how to run em OR they just throw em away after a warranty runs out and get the next new thing. What’s going on guys with the new trucks? I want a newer to me truck like 2015ish that has depreciated a whole lot but still nowhere near a million miles that I can take care of but if that can’t be done I’m sticking with the old faithful.

Your post is conflicted to me.
IF I wanted absolute reliability I would be looking at the older Cats The model of truck has to be old enough that you cannot hook ELD and all that emissions crap to it. I don't care if Cali banned that age of a truck but I would cry anyway then do something to work around it.
Mileage is not a concern. Everything is numbered in it's days. A beginning and a ending.John Bertucci and Cam Roberts Thank this. -
Are you mechanically inclined?
Do you have a safe place to wrench?
Do you have tools/are you willing to buy tools?
If the answer to all 3 questions is yes, go pre-egr.
If the answer to any of these questions is no, wait and buy new with a full extended warranty.FlaSwampRat, Muddydog79 and John Bertucci Thank this. -
Pittsburgh Power is a great place for the newer engines, The Diesel force cleaning and some of their other products do wonders for those motors.
