Graduated / received my CDL from a local college 2 months ago in May. Had some things at & home I had to take care of before i started signing up for companies and now I'm nervous about ending up getting sent home since I've not been in a truck for a while. Wondering if I should go with a longer training company like Roehl or Freymiller but for now I'm bound for Schneider.

Your first month at Schneider will be with a trainer which is where you will learn to drive and handle a truck. Everybody goes through it, and almost everybody does fine. It doesn't matter who you start with. Just learn the ropes so you can move on and get a better paying job after you've trained with them for a while.

You'll be fine. There's a lot of benefits to learning at Schneider with a big safety net

From all I've gathered. Schneider has good training. Only thing you have to worry about with Schneider is they're anal. Like working for your mother. Every detail they address. Not a bad company to go with. They'll train you for sure. Don't worry about that.
Schneider doesn't allow intelligent life forms in the trucks. A deal breaker for me.

Once you reach a sufficient level up = Drive truck like a Boss... you will never forget the hows for it.

I was around Semis as a crew boss with a group of 20 or so temps with CDL's They are either taught pushbutton autos or taught just enough manual to get into the barn and parked without looking stupid in front of the buyers and the internet.

I hopped into one something like 5 years later as a yard jockey supporting two buildings a half mile apart. My 53 foot went right into the door in my trademark one move.

A good trainer will build you up. A bad trainer will make you feel taken advantage of.

Do not be afraid of anything. God provides us all a beautiful world made just for us and Him.

Everyone is fair game for being sent home. That is something that needs to be changed relatively soon. Its a form of Abuse to new hires to fly or bus them 2000 miles from home and decided that you don't like the cut of his or her Jib and ship same home or worse, leave you stranded.

Just stay within yourself, meaning... don't let someone else influence how you drive the truck, unless it is the trainer.

    Have a positive attitude.

If it doesn't feel right...then don't do it. Learn from your mistakes. Don't repeat mistakes. Don't be afraid to get out and look.

I worked for Schneider for 2 years and enjoyed it. Was home 95% of the weekends, was even given a rental car for my vacation. I had zero issues and only left for a local job. Granted this was 10 years ago.

You will be fine. Learn the work flow, keep your paper work in order. You will be with a trainer, they should help you. Think and breathe. Take your time, better to go a little slow, watch what your doing. With time and practice the skills will get better.

Drove for Schneider until I found a local job. They will train you right. Ask questions. Don’t let the trainer intimidate you. If you don’t understand keep asking. They put their pants on one leg at a time just like you do. You’ll be fine.
