Clearance lamps

    Dispatch says I can drive with clearance lamps out during the day. But don't I still risk failing a random inspection and getting a citation ? There is a short somewhere and Love's can't fix it. If I remove the fuse to the clearance lamps , I have turn signals but no lamps. If i replace fuse for clearance lamps , I have those , but no turn signals . Any advice and facts on this issue are appreciated. Thanks.

    No turn signals/brake lights are both out of service violations.

    Clearance lamps are not required in the daytime and would not be an out of service item during an inspection.

    Actually they are required all the time, not required to be turned on but if you get inspected they have to work. Not an OS at anytime.

    Clearance lights are required to work, always.
    Not an oos, it is a failed inspection.

    Don't know about electrical stuff... But I can say that most dispatchers are full of BS....:biggrin_2552:
    During DOT inspection all lights must be working properly. Can't say for sure if a clearance light failure is a os.
    Go to TA/Petro and have them take a look at it. If it's something they can't repair, they should know where you should go next... Good luck with the repair...

    Confirming, clearance lights MUST be operable during an inspection. Result of non-operable clearance light is a failed inspection, not OOS.

    My response was directed at the OP wondering if he could run in the daytime with the clearance lamps off.

    Every light must work on inspection but running during the day with the markers off is commonplace and would not initiate a roadside inspection.

    While it won't initiate a roadside inspection, it would qualify as a fail if for any reason he received an inspection.
