@1951 ford i
like seeing how much work goes into the simple things like that. I see a weld and don't normally think how much time and effort it really took.
@AModelCat you can't leave. We have to see what happens with your truck.cke, SL3406, exhausted379 and 23 others Thank this. -

Smoked a pizza on the traeger. Turned out pretty good.

I should have mentioned up above, these are 1/2" thick x 6" wide plates. 1 side is 8" long, the other is 14". Cutting the plates, laying out and drilling the holes took about 30 minutes. It took an hour from start to finish on the welding. The picture taking didn't affect the time either, I still had to wait between welds.
There are inter-pass temperatures that have to be watched to prevent, as funny as it sounds, overheating the metal. I waited until the temperature dropped below 350* before running the next pass. Some code governed welds have a range for these, say 400*-450*. Above 450*, you can't weld because it's too hot and must cool. Below 400*, you can't weld because it's too cool and must be heated back up. It has to do with heat cycles and metallurgy that I don't fully understand. If the procedure calls out a range, I stick to those numbers.
20 minutes after finishing the first piece, it still had a 140* temperature. Not only at the weld, but across the length of the piece from one end to the other. I just let them cool in the ambient air.It took over 30 minutes to get under 100*.
Edit: what @Feedman said, ya can't leave us hanging. -
