Not to feed the trolls but common sense tells you that if there is enough money to pay a drivers salary there must be money in it somewhere.....
OO or stay with company?

The money isn't in driving the truck anymore
-
For example insurance isn't 10x for 10 trucks. Basically the larger the company the per truck overhead costs go down.
Anything from getting the load, to shop costs to even fuel if there are enough trucks.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
So it makes sense then to lease on with a company 1st. You get the fuel and insurance breaks to soften the blow. Make some money, hope for some lady luck that you don't have a breakdown 1 week after starting.
My dad has been driving his rig for 6 months without issues. I drive a company truck that doesn't have the same issues some of you are claiming exist and our shop is about as incompetent as they come. I'm not saying that issues don't arise because I've seen them personally. But I believe the higher percentage says you can go a few months without issues. I wouldn't say it if i hadn't driven a truck for a bit. =) -
What gets me is that most who complain about negativity are single truck owners who were lucky.Just passing by Thanks this. -
True and i.m not new in this game but the overkill on these responses looks to be mostly from people not in it.....as far as competing with the big boys thier numbers suck my trucks are twice as productive and only watching four I am able to beat thier numbers hands down ....is thier insurance cost lower may be lower but my trucks are cheaper ...i.m married to my accounting Dept (that may actually cost more) etc etc who has the advantage who cares we still make money

Just today I found out I need about 2.5k in repairs and it’s pushing me back into the red if I can’t get it done ASAP as I made a critical error that has cost me big. -
There is a difference between negativity to be constructive and negativity to be sarcastic.
If you don’t know the individual personally, both is pointless and serves only to be condescending. That’s exactly how I am taking it. Why can’t we encourage people and say, here is what to avoid. If you do this, you’ll be successful. Instead, I’m reading basic sarcasm. Some have very good points and I am using that information intently. But as a grown man, the other stuff needs to be kept off the board. It serves no purpose.adayrider Thanks this. -
I will say part of the reason I am where I am now is everything I learned bootstrapping my company with a 10k truck and 1000 in the bank I think 100k to start with could make you fiscally lazy ......fear is a great motivator and I started in 09 during the great recession...but that is just my two cents
Opendeckin and eightballwoody Thank this. -
Your not lieing. I believe with anything in overabundance, you can become very sloppy with how you manage because you feel like you have enormous boundaries. When your on a shoestring budget, your gonna be very careful about what you do. I can say that is spot on.
