    Memories.

That was actually my exact training route to the Shipways. There were some problems on the 40-48 that requires some finesse long before the 68 was finished.

In the Shipways the other school truck went ahead and did a classic half circle around to miss me face to face as I lined up on a spot she was going for her spot but the property wasnt that big. Big enough. I wonder if the #### thing is still in business.

In bridgeport-newhaven CT area there is a little bridge maybe 8 ton made of steel grating mostly on the water. Don't ask how I managed to miss the great big I-95 over the head and get tot he edge of that water and find out the whole thing is on a bridge that is not rated for me. I managed a left and got the trailer off it and managed to work my way back to 95 the hard way. Only there was a overhead clearance problem that led to a police call in those days. To herd off the traffic while I turned then and there on 4 lawns and across the whole of that road. I did not think much just had to sit and take the teasing and ribbing by the Lawmen well enough. Wont be the first.

So far it would have to have been the bridge my trainer woke up and told me to sit in the passenger seat and buckle in for. It goes from NJ to Maryland. He had drove that same bridge for weeks but it was closed due to high winds and he parked there right before it, told me to get some sleep. Then he woke me up 5 hours later told me to buckle up because he was going to drive across it. He told me they were allowing semis 65k or heavier across.

We were not that heavy. I buckled up. We crossed completely uneventfully. He told me that he hates that bridge. I didn't object because I hate uncontrolled water period. But all was well. Maybe there was a bit of drama there. Trailer didn't get blown at all. But hes the trainer and he said that bridge sucks so who am I to argue.

First time I went out 4 I remember telling myself “why the fjrjtnsngmr am I here?! Should’ve just sat in I80 rush hour!”

The bridge ain’t too bad but I remember the shrubs along the ends being so tall you couldn’t see oncoming...

The bridge round Jubitz can be a interesting ordeal if you’re going north. Everyone wants to stay pedal down for the upcoming climb but the rookies don’t recognize how sharp the turn actually is and before ya know it there in your lane. Nevermind how skinny the right lane is... if your grabbing the 14 it’s a “must slow down” ordeal... doesn’t look bad on Google but I’m sure I was on 9 wheels first time I took it.

That would be either the Delaware Memorial Bridge or the Millard Tydings at about the 91MM on 95 in MD.

The Tydings Bridge can be more of a problem for wind than the Bay Bridge.

Vienna was replaced about 30 years ago, Cambridge not long after that. Kent Narrows was more recent, and they just got done replacing the one on 331 between Easton and Preston.

Don’t forget how Salisbury used to stack up on the beach trips. :biggrin_25523:

The craven cowards close the Delaware Memorial at a little breeze. Sheesh. Now the Tydings Bridge at Hav're de Grace is a goodie. A favorite. But at some point into the late 90's there was getting to be too much traffic up that way. So it was less of a concern. Just have to be ready for all lanes to stop short. Its strictly on that road in rush either way twice a day.

A short story on the Hatem below the Tydings. Thats US 40. That bridge is named after a Korean War Marine who was in my Relative's unit there in Chosin in the early 50's as their history demonstrates. I usually paid the toll and used that bridge instead some of the time. (A scale house work around then...)

I had a trailer seperation coming off the Tydings southbound. The grate there at the edge flipped my container off the 5th wheel clean as a whistle. (Holland, you think the #### jaw was in place...) came down on my aft drives. My trainee or rather replacement driver had to be coached into allowing her to come stop at the shoulder and we crank it up and rehook. It's a VERY good thing that #### box did not get away all the way because all three lanes were stuffed with a very resolute work force intent on getting for dinner. (Whew...)

Has anyone ever driven across the skyway bridge on 275 south of St Pete? They close it to all traffic at 45mph winds, I never drive a truck across it, wonder if it's sketchy all the time for them to close it like that?

I probably have. I cannot remember the incidents on that particular part of the city or bridge in any memory but I do recall rolling around there now and then and again. Florida was not too... shippy unless it's flatbed Plant City for sheets of Gypsum, chain and cable west to Gulf Rigs and we get pipe in Texas back east to Florida. Did that for 6 months give or take on I-10 finally pointed the truck to the home yard shop due to accumulating repair needs (Midroof volvo, figures had a list of 50+ problems. Company wanted it there at home cheaper that way) And there are the oranges in Fort Laruadale north to the mid atlantic and NY upstate. One load was a adventure to believe.
