When you fit it you can spin it by hand and push to all possible directions to take away the slack of the bearings to see if it touches any part of the housing. Exhaust wheel is the most expensive part to manufacture, I don't think they make them in many different types. That C16 housing is much bigger than 47, A/R 1.41 vs 1.39, it makes your engine to breathe better. You can also limit boost with WG if you want/need to.

Also it will have to drive a bigger compressor wheel than the C16 turbo.
I talked to the Garrett dealer over here and he said I need the divided housing, the one I have is for gas powered cars the rev higher also he said its big enough for 1300hp no need to go to the GT55. -
C16KIWI Thanks this.

Seems that it is different, the stock C16 turbo has an exhaust wheel that stays at 92.7mm where the GT47 goes from 92.7mm to 88mm and has more fins.
If I was to fit the stock housing to the 47 it would have a large clearance around the wheel.
Garrett must make a divided housing for the GT47 I will just have to look harder. -
Does C15 turbo have a divided housing? It was a GT47. -

I found a guy that runs a turbo shop over here and gave him the CAT turbo reman part number (OR7924) and he said thats a Borg Warner S410G turbo.
All the other reman turbo's Ive had on this engine have been Garrett on closer inspection the stock turbo has no make on it apart from CAT stamped all over it where all the other ones had Garrett stamped on it.
When did they change???? -
Hey Shaun any luck in the search for a divided housing?
-
I have found a guy that builds Garrett turbochargers for race/drag cars,he builds custom housings and told me to bring it in and he will have a look at it.
I know gas and diesel are different but it wont hurt to have a look. -
I talked to a guy who builds turbos near me. He apparently has a GT47 with a divided housing and he put in an extra set of ball bearings or something because he said the stock ones can't push as much boost as his
Preston3 Thanks this.
