the optima batteries run about $130 to $150 each. I run them in my jeeps. they are seald so you can mount them in any position, even upside down.

I prefer the battery idea. The pony pack system ties into your existing A/C sytem which is what I was considering except to use the batteries and electric motor compressor instead of the deisel generator. -

the condition you speak of happens when the batteries are at rest. if they are all connected at a rest they will constantly seak a leavel and it shortend there life. THe ststem I described seperates the dissimilar batteries at a rest and only opend them when the alternator is charging them.
the guy I know has had the system set up this way for a few years with no problems and the huge iindustrial batteries he uses are nothing like the truck batteries.
also if you are really concerned about it I think the use of the electronic battery isolator compleately seperates the two different banks all the time. the solinoid system I could see could mabey offer the possibility to flot between them. -
they don't wanna hear from a dumb old trucker that they are just gonna keeep replacing one at a time per month FOREVER if they dont replace them all at onceThe Challenger Thanks this. -
Thanks. Do those portable a/c units have a heat side to them as well? It's been so long since i've been around a window unit too. I was just curious as to whether or not it would just sit in the Winter time, or if you could use it as a back up heater as well.

ponypack is junk. it beats the hell out of the rotary ac compressors. it's okay on the york style compressors. parts are hard to replace. Brickman loves them but he didn't have his long enough to know. I've spoken to some people who have them and they almost all hate them.
i've spent some time on this whole apu /heat/ac thing -
