Fmcsa just cares about it being accessable.

    (4) Condition, location, and mounting. The fire extinguisher(s) must be filled and located so that it is readily accessible for use. The extinguisher(s) must be securely mounted to prevent sliding, rolling, or vertical movement relative to the motor vehicle.

That’s not true at all. You have to yell/argue even sometimes disrespect DOT (Even though we need them) AS SOON as they start finding stuff wrong. They don’t want confrontation... and they are going to write you a violation or a non fightable written warning regardless of being friendly. They ruin your day you best believe I’m not letting them lift their chin up. Imagine how dumb you feel playing “Yes Sir... No Sir... Thank you sir...” and getting a ticket anyways.... don’t be that guy.

The company I'm leased to had to have a truck towed of from the scales. They had a windshield replaced and the inspection sticker was cut out and placed on the dash. The driver on the truck at the time was not the regular driver and could not get ahold of the owner as he's a driver too and didn't have signal. The officer said it had to be within 5 days of getting the windshield replaced. the sticker was good but made the driver call a tow truck before he'd give his license back. To top it off kept the sticker and piece of windshield.
Absolutely no reason for that nonsense. I can see a fix it ticket but make them tow it? Absurd.
I think the dot have over stepped their bonds.

Are you serious? Do you really turn every inspection into shouting and a display of temper on your part?
You must deal with some really wimpy DOT people if you get away with that.
I'd like to see what happens if you tried that with the DOT people I know.

It’s called freedom of speech. What are they going to do put their hands on me? I once got a violation because the company I was leased to had “USDOT - 123456” and the “-“ made it illegal. What goes around comes around. It was a violation that was the carriers fault, a sprinkle of my fault for not knowing and something fixed in 50 seconds.

No, they won't put hands on you. They'll just cost you money. And time. Can you spare it?

Unfortunately the only place you can buy real brake cleaner now is at an auto parts store. All the truck stops have switched to the non-chlorinated kind, which doesn't seem to clean anything.

Some of my favorite violations.... the “-“ between USDOT and your numbers. I have also had the fire extinguisher not secured violation however it was Secured... but it had 2 latches and one of them wasn’t completely pressed. Maryland pulled me into the inspection barn and after checking everything decided my air coils were touching and wrote it up. Not a oos. When the truck went to the shop they looked at it, shook their head, and told me they had to get you for something (co driver atm). My absolute absolute favorite this year was the KeepTruckin eld not being “mounted” God forbid I didn’t use the double sided tape and it just hangs out on the dashboard and had never moved. Very easy to understand my mindset.

Maybe you running your mouth at the inspectors puts them in a bad mood.?
Then they get even by writing you for violations that, at their discretion, would normally be just warnings?
Why not take your game up a notch? Go to court on the violations and chip your teeth at the judge. Lecture him on your freedom of speech. I mean, just stand right up on your back legs and howl.
Now that might have some consequences you'd understand and be impressed by.

You “selectively” read my post and don’t understand what I’m saying. It’s ok though conversion over. Also... when you go to court over minor violations you hire a lawyer and they deal with the prosecutor and judge. Big difference between someone like a judge who controls your fate and a ticket happy ignorant DOT officer. The judge is your friend... the officer is the opposition. Not a good comparison.
