So I did the cross over on the front and Ends. And also on the middle and the two on either side of the middle pallet. Headed to the CAT scale that's about 10 miles away. Let's see how much it settles.

You did a good job, more than most guys who haul river rock daily would do.

It will settle for a hundred miles or so and the cages will bulge a bit but dont let it bother you. If a cage starts to blow apart or load shift, belly band it to the neighbors with a 2" ratchet strap by hooking the J's together and cover wrapping them with a strap tail. Maybe not legal but itll work.

Please, Do not EVER chain a rock basket or youll bust it plumb open.

Theyre like bag mulch, you cant really bind down very tight on them. The stones will move over and youll eat into the cage then break it open. Youd be better with no strap at all.

I saw this and was thinking of pallets of flat stone that look more reminiscent of the back of a stegosaurus.

Its a regular 2" hand ratchet with the J hooks clasping each other so the strap becomes a loop. Cinch it down tight with the ratchet binder around the belly of a pair of cages and then take the extra free slack of the strap tail and run it through the slit of the first J hook, wrap it over the pair like header wrap, then through the other side slit and tie it off. All this cover wrap does is prevent the hooks from unclasping if you get some slack in there. Think bra clasp.. Hook the J's together like a bra then wrap over em. Theyll stay together if you can keep the loop tight, but flop apart if it slackens.

Oh and i do think the big vee boards are a great idea but be real sure they dont fly off.. This junk continues to settle and slacken the straps far longer than anything else ive hauled. Its a lot of retightening.

I suspect every big brick vee board i ever got off the roadside was from river rock letting it go. Brick packs really dont loosen straps up that much.

Made it with all the Vee boards intact. Actually hauled better than I thought. Was nervous about going through the Gorge on 40 heading into NC but it rolled smooth.
