Seemed kinda high to me also. But its the interest rate
Truck price is $66,500 +8000 = $74,500
$74,500 minus down $11,175 = So he is actually financing $63,000
Total payment of $88,000 -63,000= $25,000 interest. That's $6250 a year that's about a third to high.
I would not let that stop me from buying, but you can be sure. I'd be sending two checks every month. The initial $1600 and a second separate $400 (total$2000 per month.) The 2nd check being clearly marked PRINCIPAL ONLY.
Knock off a full year of principal and interest.
*note* I did the math off the top of me head not using calculator. So the second check might be a little more or less. Point was pay off early.stuckinthemud and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
How's that financing any different then say, buying a car? Other then the interest.
The payoff is always more then the value. Unless you pay cash. Correct? -
I went ahead and bought the truck. So far, put 6,000 miles already and have no issues at all. Looking great so far. My APU works great. Truck already generated close to $10k with no issues. Already made and put aside my 1st truck payment which is due in September. I am pairing my 2016 T680 with a 2019 48' Utility flatbed trailer. They make a great pair. Fully loaded with fuel, equipment empty weight is 31,000 lbs.
As to high interest, for 80%+ of owner operators, getting less than 12% interest on used truck purchases is a major challenge. This industry is very high risk so any finance company other than the manufacturer will not give good rates.Last edited: Aug 9, 2019

Good luck with everything. -
I passed on the Cummins warranty because it only cover the engine. No emission coverage. I bought the Premium 2000 extended warranty, 2 years, 250k for $8,000. My main reason for buying the extended warranty is because of superstition reasons. Whenever i buy a warranty on a car, electronic, etc, i never use the warranty because they work fine. I hope that I do not need to use this new 8k warranty in the next 2 years. If my truck runs fine for next 2 years, I would be up way ahead. Yes, this is a stupid reason for buying the warranty.
This is my 9th truck and I have never bought a warranty on any of my previous trucks. I should have bought warranty on them because I end up spending minimum of 10k on repairs within 18 months on all of them.Last edited: Aug 9, 2019
