Buy an old cabover way more acces to drivetrain. See the pic in my avatar it's for sale for $19k in the truckpaper. Series 60 11.1 with 600,000 miles I think. Owner operater took good care of it. I would drive an old taken care of truck coast to coast before a brand new truck. And autos suck Everytime I back up to dock I get overheat warnings just going easy as possible.
Advice me on what truck to buy

A few years back my wifes uncle sold out in NM and bought a big farm in Az. He needed 6 new double wides in a hurry, when he told the salesman that he wanted a good price and he would take 6, the salesman told him the more he bought, the cheaper they would be. His son, said, good deal, just keep bringing them till they are free. lol
Bakerman, Midwest Trucker and mp4694330 Thank this. -

You newbies wanting to relive the good old days and buying a raggity cab over, just tooo toooooo funny.
Many of these guys cry about their power windows not working or the a/c isn't cold enough are in for a real surprise when they realize what life was like when these trucks were new.Zigzag777, Diesel Dave, AModelCat and 2 others Thank this. -

1. "I am gonna get my year experience, then find something local."
2. "I want an older pre-emission truck."
(Mind you, chances are they have never driven one....they just want to look like a trucker)
3. "I have too much trouble on mountains. I need a stick shift."
(Personally, I dont see what difference it makes what tranny you use in grades. The weight your load will pretty much determine speed going up, and common sense and level of training will determine speed going down).
4. "The industry is too regulated."
(Comes from the guys driving for a mega. Majority haven't been driving long enough to know.all the regs).Zigzag777 and Socal Xpress Thank this.
