U could always brake down to speed on the low side of next lowest gear and by the time i get it in neutral u gained enough speed for it to fall in like butter

That is also an idea too. But thing is, that method, you using yo' Brakes a little more instead of Rev Matching. Taking more Time to do it like you mentioned. Not a bad idea if it's not ridiculously Steep lol. My Method, grab the Brakes for a second, Downshift matching yo' Revs with the Right Foot at the same Time.

If you have never been there before, how do you know what the (proper) gear is?
If it is a long grade that changes grades several times, do you stay in one gear for several miles, just because you don't wont to learn to properly shift? Don't get me wrong, if you can't shift, I hope you keep it in a low enough gear. I want everyone to not overdrive their ability, none of are in that big of a hurry.
Have you ever heard of a truck jumping out of gear?? I took a pretty hairy ride once when one did.

That is probably ok with little loads and interstate grades. Our loads start out at 89000 on a standard 2 axle trailer, and just go up from there with more axles. In fact I pull 2 axles probably 20% of the time, and a lot of our grades are double and even triple than the worst grade on any interstate. I don't think I will be using your method,if I did, I may have to shift up two gears to get back in gear. lol
