Idling in California

Kinda like out east here.....

I'm imagining that Cops,DOT law enforcement that DON'T write the laws,Use Common sense and turn their Heads on these idling laws....

I Run New York,New Jersey,New England ,Pennsylvania all the time- NEVER seen or heard any driver getting harrassed and cited idling in a rest area,Truck stop etc.......

 

I run and live here, I have only heard second hand stories from drivers about how bad CA is from driver outside of CA.
2020 Volvo you have nothing to worry about. None of us worry about the idle stuff at all, if its hot idle if its too cold idle if you need to.
Most of what you hear bad is from drivers that dont even run here. Just BS, no worries.

it's called the California clean idle truck it means if you have the sticker you can idle in California..
it means it meets the carb requirements for idling a diesel engine there's a reason it's called California clean idle truck..
it doesn't say truck can enter California..
if it's an older truck and not carb compliant they can write you up if you want if you don't have the aftermarket retrofit..or your truck does not meet carbs idle rules..
most of your trucks from 2015 on do..
look carefully at the sticker sometime it says clean "idle"

 

There may be two parts to No Idling. 1st is Emission, and second is Noise. If you are Unlucky to be targetted for a citation for Idling, the cop can say sign says no idling due to ordinance #.... I have talked to people who gotten tickets for idling even though they have Clean Idle sticker on the driver door.

I was just in the suburbs of Boston, MA and there were signs everywhere saying trucks can park at night in the industrial park but no idling. Its obvious that they do not want engine noise because there are a lot of homes mixed in with commercial properties. I got there at night with trucks parked on the street. No one idled so I would think it was enforced.

 

Cali doesn’t bother too much. But some of the east coast states do. I know in NYC citizens can get a reward for reporting idling trucks.

 

This I believe. I saw a video(can’t remember where)where an individual would walk around and record trucks that where idling while delivering. It was freezing cold. Anyways..... he would record the company’s name and lecture the driver. Go figure, probably how he made he’s lively hood not realizing it’s trucks that gets he’s food and etc on he’s table.

yeah I mentioned that in an earlier post that he should not have any kind of a problem.. but as usual.....
